Organizational Setting


The Office of Climate Change, Biodiversity and Environment promotes integration of innovative approaches in the activities of the Organization, for the sustainable use, management and conservation of natural resources for food and agriculture. OCB assists member countries in their responses towards the challenge of climate change mitigation and adaptation, as well as the development of adaptive capacities of agriculture, fisheries and forestry for conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and other natural resources. It provides a coordination role on climate change, biodiversity and the environment. The Office also serves as the focal point for a multidisciplinary and global approach to UNFCCC, CBD and topics on bioenergy as well as undertaking work and providing support and guidance on assessment, management and tenure issues.
The post is located in Rome.


Reporting Lines

The Knowledge Management Officer reports to the Director, OCB, under the functioning supervision of the OCC technical communication focal point.
Technical Focus

Key Results

Collection and analysis and dissemination of information to support programme projects, products and services.

Key Functions

• Collects and analyses relevant technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional and technology related information, to support the delivery of programme projects, products and services;
• Undertakes analysis, provides technical input for plans and reports and edits/revises technical/scientific documents;
• Participates in the development of improved work methods, tools and systems;
• Updates databases and web pages;
• Participates on multi-disciplinary project/work teams;
• Collaborates in the development of training tools and materials and the organization of workshops/seminars etc.;
• Participates in the organization, conduct and follow-up of meetings, consultations and conferences, the development/production of required materials and the provision of information and assistance to partners;
• Drafts, edits and makes available on the internet promotional videos and webcasts and assists with documenting international events, including by providing photos coverage and using other social media tools;
• Drafts project publications, posters, brochures and other printed material to enhance the visibility and outreach of key divisional/office products;
• Performs other duties.

Specific Functions

• Supports the development and integration of a Climate, Biodiversity and Environment Hub and guarantees that it contains the organization's publications and resources related to agriculture, forestry, fisheries and food systems as well as the areas of work of the Office;
• Takes the lead in coordination with OCC in finalizing technical publications, material, including databases, websites, webpages, newsletters, social media material, infographics and others, both for online and hard copy printing, guaranteeing visual consistency in-line with FAO publication and digital policies;
• Collaborates closely with OCC and other units to guarantee effective and timely production and dissemination of communications and outreach products and events on Climate, Biodiversity and the Environment, including monitoring OCB contributions to SOMI;
• Maintains information datasets and databases related to the Office's communications, outreach and knowledge dissemination products; generating reports as and when requested;
• Participates in the planning, development and implementation of dissemination strategies of OCB projects and programmes including participation in relevant activities pertinent to UN Decades with FAO involvement, in close coordination with OCC.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• Advanced university degree in public relations, communication, social science, journalism, political science or a related field
• Three years of relevant experience in communication, graphic design for the preparation of technical publications, posters, user interfaces and other visual materials and the production of high resolution videos for international events
• Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish)

Technical/Functional Skills

• Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions is desirable
• Extent and relevance of experience and knowledge in website management and level of scientific data processing and analysis skills, including programming;
• Extent and relevance of experience in natural resources management and use of graphic design software;
• Familiarity with communications related to sustainable development:
• Ability to analyze complex natural resources management and climate-related issues from a communications and outreach point of view.
