Junior Expert - Project Management*

in Kassala or Gedaref

The position is to be filled by May 1, 2021 with an initial contract duration of two years. Employment location will be Kassala or Gedaref, Sudan.

As Junior Expert - Project Management you will support the Head of Project to achieve successful completion of the project, in compliance with Welthungerhilfe and donor requirements. With your work you will help realizing the project goals: alleviate human suffering and maintain human dignity during times of crisis for refugees in Kassala and Gedaref and vulnerable members of host communities; ensure affected populations have access to safe and adequate shelter and improve food and nutrition security; improve access of affected target groups to safe drinking water, sanitation facilities and hygiene knowledge; improve food and nutrition security of affected populations.

Your responsibilities

Support the Head of Project in:

  • Managing diverse project staff, budgets and project resources
  • Ensuring compliance with Welthungerhilfe and donor policies and standards
  • Ensuring the project(s) runs smoothly and activities are completed within budget and on time
  • Producing well accurate and high-quality reports on a monthly, quarterly and bi-annual basis for internal and donor audiences
  • Liaising with all relevant stakeholders, including government, UN, NGO and community representatives
  • Ensure that all project relevant support is in place (Monitoring, Logistics, Finance administration etc.)
  • Participating in sectoral coordination meetings within the project locations
  • Maintaining high quality delivery standards, ensuring professionalism and ethical conduct at all times

Your profile

  • A university or polytechnic degree, preferably in the areas of development/humanitarian studies, food and nutrition security or agriculture
  • First job-related professional project management experience, preferably in the region
  • Practice and experience in conducting assessments, compiling work specifications, initiating tendering procedures and managing relationships to stakeholders
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: WASH, food and nutrition security and shelter/NFI, implementing peace building projects, integrating peacebuilding approaches
  • Experience and knowledge of implementing projects funded by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs (AA) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) will be an added advantage
  • Strong planning skills and a high level of mental and physical resilience, including readiness to travel to remote areas
  • Excellent spoken and written English; Arabic and/or German language skills would be an asset
