ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

Brief description of WFP in Uganda

WFP delivers food assistance in emergencies and work with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. WFP provides life-saving food assistance and livelihood opportunities to refugees in Uganda. In addition, WFP assists the most vulnerable people in Uganda with food and nutrition assistance. Finally, WFP works with smallholder farmers and links them to markets.

As Uganda strives to achieve Zero Hunger by 2030 and become a middle-income country by 2040, WFP is also assessing its relevance and repositioning its role in Uganda.

ARE YOU UP TO THE CHALLENGE?

We are seeking a qualified individual for the position of Nutrition Officer to be based in Arua under the Uganda Country Office. Selected candidates will be employed on a Service Contract

JOB PURPOSE

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

1. Plan and monitor Nutrition programme, verify the planned movements and distribution of nutrition products, resolving routine issues and/or escalating where appropriate, to ensure that the quantity distributed and the quality of the operation is in line with WFP standards. 
2. Summarize Nutrition data, conduct analysis and prepare reports to support programme reviews and informative decision-making.
3. Liaise with cooperating partners and internal counterparts to gather feedback and comments to support Nutrition programme reviews and improve services.
4. Suggest improvements to field monitoring processes and procedures for efficient implementation of Nutrition programmes.
5. support communication and activities with local partners, agencies, NGOs and government institutions.
6. Build team capacity in Nutrition through effective guidance, coaching, training and accountability.
7. Support technical trainings for cooperating partners in Nutrition and WFP operational practices to support them to independently implement and self-monitor nutrition activities in the coverage areas.
8. Assist in developing and expanding malnutrition prevention activities through promotion of E-IYCF and awareness raising in targeted areas.

12. Strengthen eternal stakeholder engagement including district local governments to strengthen nutrition programming

13. Support corporating partner project management processes, evaluation and oversight

14. Support nutrition programme reporting including; donor report writing; CP report reviews, HMIS etc

15. Any other duties as may be required

9. Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to ensure WFP can quickly respond and deploy needed resources to affected areas at the onset of the crisis.

10. Participate and give area office nutrition report in the weekly nutrition technical meetings

11. Participate in national level nutrition technical working group discussions as may be required by the head of nutrition

12. Strengthen eternal stakeholder engagement including district local governments to strengthen nutrition programming

13. Support corporating partner project management processes, evaluation and oversight

14. Support nutrition programme reporting including; donor report writing; CP report reviews, HMIS etc

15. Any other duties as may be required

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Completion of Bachelor’s Degree in nutrition, social sciences, nutrition or such a related field and functional area is desirable. With working at least four (5) of relevant experience
• Advanced University degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Sociology, Development Studies or other relevant field.
• A minimun of 5 years in direct nutrition programming- planning, impelementation and evalaution 
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the field of monitoring, evaluation and reporting of nutrition programmes;
• Research experience using variety of analytical tools and methods for causality analysis, forecasting, and other data modeling needs, related to nutrition programming.
• Sound knowledge of regional local dialects is very desirable
