Assistant for Graphic Design

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the UNODC’s Technical Assistant for Judicial Architecture, the Assistant for Graphic Design will:

  • Create graphic design projects for architectural technical reports in both digital and printed formats, containing design concept, visual identity, layout design, formatting, infographic material, charts style and color palette;
  • Develop Adobe Illustrator, Adobe In-design and Adobe Photoshop styles and templates;
  • Assist the supervisor in reviewing final layouts and graphic material suggesting improvements;
  • Liaise with external publishing companies to ensure graphic design material follows graphic design concept and templates;
  • Develop qualitative and quantitative charts;
  • Elaborate project infographics;
  • Turn Excel spreadsheet data into graphs or charts;
  • Advise the supervisor with regard to design style and formatting solutions, taking into account work efficiency;
  • Transform text-based communications materials into visual graphic design materials;
  • Liaise with and report to UNODC Technical Assistant for Judicial Architecture regarding visual design work related to the project;
  • Provide recommendations on the visual design style suitable for the project’s target audience;
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or other area related to design/architecture;
  2. Completed or uncompleted undergraduate studies in Architecture specifically will be considered an asset;
  3. Postgraduate degree in Design, Architecture or related areas will be considered an asset.
Required experience: 24 Months Experience remark:
  • 2 years of experience working with graphic design projects;
  • Experience with turning Excel data into charts and graphics;
  • Experience with designing and creating illustrations and infographics;
  • Experience of graphic production from start phase till published/printed product with knowledge of printing processes and color management;
  • Working experience in architecture will be an asset;
  • Work experience with Justice, Human Rights, Prison System, Public Safety or related areas will be considered an asset;
  • Work experience on projects aimed at delivering social impact will be an asset;
  • Academic or professional experience in graphic design in a multicultural environment will be an asset;
Language skills:
  • Portuguese(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • English(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge
Area of expertise: Web and graphic design, Human rights, Architecture and urban planning Area of expertise details:
  • Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite design software’s Adobe In-Design, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe-Illustrator;
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners and authorities at different levels;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines.
