The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with a contract duration of two years. There are good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Bonn, Germany.

As Deputy Regional Director you will support the Regional Director in planning and implementing the overall regional strategy based on Welthungerhilfe's strategy, the conditions of the relevant countries and their existing needs and potentials. You will ensure high quality programming in accordance with Welthungerhilfe standards and regulations and ensure that Welthungerhilfe makes a relevant contribution in the region.

Your responsibilities

• Assist the Regional Director in the development, implementation and funding of programmes in the region
• Substitute for the Regional Director in the event of absence
• Participate in the strategic development of the programme area and the overall organization
• Network and collaborate with other organizational units in Welthungerhilfe Head Office on strategic challenges and issues
• Support security management in the region
• Define a sector and regional portfolio with developmental relevance including efficient structures for selected countries
• Ensure coherence of country programmes and annual plans with Welthungerhilfe's strategy
• Advocacy and networking in Germany and at international level with regard to the region

Your profile

• A university or polytechnic degree in a job-relevant field
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional and leadership experience in the humanitarian context, partly abroad
• Experience in working in an intercultural environment, including good communication and negotiation skills
• Analytical and strategic thinking as well as proactive development of solutions
• Openness to new trends and innovations and flexible reactions to changing conditions
• Willingness to travel on short notice, also to countries with volatile contexts
• Excellent communication and writing skills in English, French and German
