Background

 

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an inter-governmental organisation mandated with the widespread and increased adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy. At present, IRENA has 163 Members (162 States and the European Union) that acceded to its Statute, and 21 additional States in the process of accession and actively engaged. IRENA supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future, and serves as the principal platform for international cooperation, a centre of excellence, and a repository of policy, technology, resource and financial knowledge on renewable energy. The Agency implements its mandate with the view to sustainable development, increased energy security and low-carbon economic growth and prosperity.

 

IRENA Innovation and Technology Centre (IITC) is responsible for the provision of the means for an accelerated renewable energy technology uptake, considering national conditions of resource endowment, social and economic frameworks. In accordance with the IRENA Statute, activities in this field include analysis of renewable energy technology policies; dissemination of information and increased awareness; technologies and equipment overview and assessment of success-failure factors; improved pertinent knowledge and technology transfer, and joint RD&D and provision of information about the development and deployment of national and international technical standards in relation to renewable energy.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Under the guidance the Analyst, RE Technology, Standards and Markets, the Analyst Renewable Energy Innovation should fulfil the following duties and responsibilities\: 

 

  • Lead the development of best practice recommendations for the commercialization and deployment of innovations that accelerate an energy transition based on renewable solutions. Special focused will be on innovations for developing countries and Small Island Developing States (SIDS);
  • Devise strategies to implement innovative solutions for the energy transition with a particular focus on emerging, developing and island countries;
  • Provide analytical support on identifying innovations required to decarbonize the transport, buildings and industry sectors;
  • Organize and prepare written outputs on renewable energy innovation, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc, including work programme inputs;
  • Promote the work of the Agency externally to a wide range of audiences through organising and participating in workshops, webinars, making presentations and holding bilateral meetings;
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of contractors, consultants and personnel;
  • Perform other duties, as required.

Qualifications

 

Education\: Advanced University degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in energy technology, economics, engineering, policy, environment or natural science, or other relevant field related to renewable energy. Candidate with a first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

 

Experience\: A minimum of five years of experience in developing global or regional analysis on renewable energy technology, energy transition and sustainable development. Proven experience in international cooperation in multicultural environments is desirable. Experience with intergovernmental processes is an advantage.

 

Language\: Excellent command of written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of other languages is desirable.
