BACKGROUND: International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in more than 40 countries and over 20 U.S. cities, the IRC provides resettlement, education and empowerment support to refugees and displaced people. 
SCOPE OF INTERN WORK: The Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA) Intern supports the RCA Specialist in the delivery of case management, financial assistance, preliminary immigration counseling, and local resources to refugee, asylees, Cuban/Haitian entrants, and other categories of recently arrived immigrants to the U.S. 
RESPONSIBILITIES: The RCA Intern assists clients enrolled in the RCA program. The intern may be assigned a group of clients for their caseload, and/or be prepared to assist clients on an as-needed basis.  
Key responsibilities: 
Provide primary or supportive case management to between 20 to 40 clients 
Speak with clients on a monthly basis to address concerns and verify continued eligibility 
Assist clients access public benefits; help them apply/re-certify for SNAP, Medicaid, & cash assistance 
Research local resources that will benefit the clients 
Keep current about local, state & national immigration legislation that affects IRC clients 
Write letters & case notes; organize/maintain data & records; other administrative tasks 
 
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:  
Learn how to provide effective, confidential case management to a diverse set of clients 
Develop skills for research and organization of data 
Improve leadership skills by taking initiative on sub-projects and completing at least one significant intern-led initiative by the end of the semester
