Background

Within a rapidly changing environment, UNDP’s Strategic Plan 2018-2021 sets an ambitious course to catalyze and facilitate positive change for countries in their efforts to achieve the SDGs. UNDP has embarked upon a series of transformational efforts across its policy and Programme, operational, and external relations areas under the auspices of a “#Nextgen UNDP” effort. The organization is aiming to digitally transform itself in order to catalyze action for the achievement of the Strategic Plan.

UNDP’s digital transformation focuses on developing the organization’s capability to leverage existing, emerging and future digital technologies and the opportunities they offer to profoundly improve the way UNDP creates and delivers value and benefits for those we serve; UNDP’s recently finalized. Digital Strategy 2019-2021 guides these efforts and builds off UNDP’s extensive range of digital initiatives spanning the country, regional, and global levels.

Start Date: With consideration for the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and its implications on working arrangements, the selected candidate can work remotely with a flexible start date.

The position of the Digital Transformation Intern will be part of the team under Chief Digital Officer and responsible for the following 

  • Support the team in applying  a structured methodology for system change and support the team in change management activities 

  • Support the team in developing human-centred approaches for culture change that are agile, and ready for the digital world 

  • Support developing digital learning strategies and its implementation in different Bureaus 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The interested candidate will work on core areas and one or more areas of focus. Please indicate in your application which area of focus you have the most expertise and interest in: 

CORE WORK: Support the team in applying structured methods for system change and support the team in change management activities 

  • Support strategic positioning analysis and advice, e.g., related to comparative advantage, partnerships, vision, mission and values; 

  • Support the translation of strategic direction and business objectives into holistic change strategies 

  • Support change and transition initiatives and integrate the activities into a Digital Strategy Implementation Plan 

CORE WORK: Support the team in developing human-centred approaches for culture change that are agile, and ready for the digital world 

  • Support the team in developing human-centred approaches for culture change that are agile, and ready for the digital world 

  • Support the team in applying behavioural tools to assess the impact of change on organizations, using assessments of organizational culture, performance, and readiness for change 

CORE WORK: Support development of digital learning strategies and its implementation in different Bureaus 

  • Contribute to practice development initiatives, including culture building, internal community involvement, eminence, recruiting, whitepapers, etc. 

  • Help different bureaus respond to and embrace market, regulatory, and process changes triggered by emerging digital technologies 

  • Contribute to practice development initiatives, including culture building, internal community involvement, eminence, recruiting, whitepapers, etc. 

AREA OF FOCUS: Digital transformation , Partnerships , thought leadership research and analysis 

  • Gather and collate relevant research on digital topics.  

  • Edit and contribute to a digital knowledge repository. 

  • Write and edit collaboratively on digital thought leadership topics. 

  • Understand UNDP’s unique positioning in digital. 

  • Gather and synthesise input from colleagues across the organization. 

  • Prepare knowledge products for publication. 

  • Prepare relevant talking points and briefing notes. 

AREA OF FOCUS: Country office support through research and analysis 

  • Providing analysis and insights through research to respond to individual country office requests 

  • Document and organize a central knowledge repository of resources to enable more effective support to country office requests 

  • Organize and structure the internal CRM 

  • Support digital projects, innovation and demands in response to needs from UNDP country offices

Required Skills and Experience

Qualifications : 

Education: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

(a) Be enrolled in a graduate school Programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);

(b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree Programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent);

(c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation. 

Language

Fluency in written and spoken English; Knowledge of UN languages is an asset

UNDP Terms & Conditions for Internship  

  • In accordance with the UNDP Internship policy, UNDP interns are eligible to receive a monthly stipend, with the rate that varies depending on the duty location. The stipend will be paid monthly, and part-time internship arrangements are prorated accordingly. 

  • Where an intern is financially supported by an institution, government or third party, UNDP will, subject to the rules of such institution, government or third party, pay the intern the difference, if any, between the external financial support provided and the applicable UNDP stipend. 

  • Except for the stipend, all other expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring the government or institutions. 

  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship. 

  • The intern must provide proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan;  

  • Interns are not considered staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity
