The IAEA is the world's centre of cooperation in the nuclear field. It was set up as the world's "Atoms for Peace" organization in 1957 within the United Nations family. The Agency works with its Member States and multiple partners worldwide to promote safe, secure and peaceful nuclear technologies. The IAEA Secretariat, a team of 2300 multi-disciplinary professional and support staff from more than 100 countries, is headquartered at the Vienna International Centre in Vienna, Austria.
The objective of the Department of Nuclear Energy (NE) is to foster the efficient and safe use of nuclear power by supporting interested Member States in\: improving the performance of nuclear power plants, the nuclear fuel cycle, and the management of nuclear wastes; catalysing innovation in nuclear power and fuel cycle technologies; developing indigenous capabilities around the world for national energy planning; deploying new nuclear power plants; preserving and disseminating nuclear information and knowledge; and advancing science and industry through improved operation of research reactors.
The department has a dynamic, participative and interactive operating environment with inputs received from the Board of Governors, the General Conference, policy and decision-makers, and technical counterparts in Member States and the international development community.
IAEA Gender Parity Objectives
The IAEA is committed to gender equality and to supporting the ability of all individuals, regardless of gender, to equally contribute to and benefit from its programmes and activities. To this end, and in line with the United Nations Secretary-General’s system-wide strategy on gender parity, the IAEA has committed to achieving gender parity at all levels in Professional and higher categories by 2025.
One of the specific measures IAEA has adopted as part of its Gender Action Plan is the establishment of a Talent Pipeline for Women to facilitate the sourcing of talented women professionals for both programmatic and support areas.
IAEA Talent Pipeline
The talent pipeline serves to develop and maintain a pool of external senior experienced women candidates for Professional and higher category posts, for profiles that are regularly recruited for and/or difficult to fill.
Note\: IAEA particularly encourages expressions of interest from experienced women from nationals of unrepresented member states and underrepresented geographical regions.
How does the Talent Pipeline work?
The talent pipeline is open to enable senior professionals to express their interest in employment with the Department of NE.
The expression of interest received will be reviewed by one or more responsible officers with a view to\:
- Contacting relevant professionals regarding vacancies that match their profile
- Sourcing candidates for temporary opportunities (6 months to maximum 2 years)
- Short-term home-based assignments to develop contributions to technical reports, develop lectures for workshops, etc.
- Expert missions of up to 2 weeks into the Member States to provide peer-reviews, direct consultation or implement workshops that help counterparts address specific challenges by the optimized use of limited resources
