In order to be considered eligible for an internship, the following criteria must be fulfilled:

a. Be a recent graduate or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; in the field of Journalism, Social Sciences or related field.

b. Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.

An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member of UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship. Public Information (PI)/ Communications Intern

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

UNHCR is the UN Refugee Agency mandated to promote protection of refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced people, returnees and people living in risk of statelessness. In Albania, UNHCR works within the national context and structures to bring policies, practices and laws relating to asylum and citizenship in compliance with international standards. UNHCR uses communication tools to sensitize and influence the relevant stakeholders to adopt practices that ensure the protection of those in need. Through relevant media platforms, both traditional and social media, UNHCR disseminates the organization¿s mandate, achievements and challenges, and seeks to engage with relevant stakeholders and people of concern to the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent will be required to perform the following activities:

1. Media monitoring: Collect and disseminate news articles published in national, regional, international dailies and periodicals that pertain to refugee related issues and the work of the office.
2. Social media management: With an aim to maintain regular information flow, produce interactive bi-lingual social media posts (info-graphs, animations, and videos) for a wide range of target audience, including general people, policy makers, donors, and people of concerns to UNHCR.  Keep abreast of social media activities of relevant entities including the office of UN Resident Coordinator, other UN Agencies, EU Delegation, NGOs, etc and repost in consultation with the External Relations unit.
3. Media relations: With an aim to establish and maintain strong relationship with the national media, compile and maintain the mailing list for timely dissemination of press releases, information bulletins, etc to media and other interested parties.
4. Custody of PI materials: Maintain adequate stock of PI and communications materials and maintain up-to-date the catalogue/inventory of PI and communications material.
5. Event management: Subject to COVID-19 related restrictions, provide assistance to organize PI events such as poster campaigns, exhibitions, and public awareness raising events.
6. External communication: In consultation with the External Relations unit, respond to routine telephone and written enquiries from a variety of sources such as the media, the public, NGOs, etc.
7. Other relevant activities: Maintain PI files up-to-date, explore UNHCR's communication systems, support the office with informal translations of various communications and other documents, as needed, in English and/or Albanian and perform any other related tasks as required. Fluency in written and spoken English and in Albanian. Type of Contract:         Internship (Full Time)
Duration:         Three months with possibility of extension up to eight months
Expected start date:        May 1st, 2021
