The vision of the IRC Seattle Youth Program is that refugee youth will have the skills and resources necessary to pursue a future of opportunity. You can help newly-arrived refugee youth catch up on their education as a Youth Summer School Intern! The IRC in Seattle’s Youth Summer School Program is a summer program for refugee students, grades K through 12. Under the direction of the IRC Senior Youth Program Coordinator and Youth Program staff, interns will coordinate and facilitate activities that focus on learning English and Math, building social and emotional skills, and having fun in the school and local community through field trips and outdoor activities. Additionally, interns may assist with school enrollment and parent workshops. This internship may be of particular interest to someone studying education or TESOL. Currently, this will be a virtual internship with the potential for an in-person/virtual hybrid model this summer. A return to any in-person services will be dependent the guidance of local public health officials, organizational policy, and school districts – and will be on a case-by-case basis for interns and students.

Location: Remote for 2021 – With potential return to a hybrid in-person model in South King County. Interns will be working with the IRC in Seattle.

Time commitment: Monday to Thursday, 4hrs per day. Regular schedule required. Position begins July 5th and continues through August 31st.

·Support Youth Program staff by assisting with classroom activities

·Support with virtual classroom coordination & planning

·Assist students and families with their virtual classrooms, technical issues, and digital resources

·Provide classroom instruction to students

·Plan classroom activities and lessons as directed by Youth Program staff

·Provide assistance in administering pre- and post-assessments

·Help with clean-up and preparation of classroom on a daily basis

·Complete administrative and case file maintenance as required
