Intern Humanitarian Directorate*

in Bonn

You can start your internship at Welthungerhilfe from September 1, 2021. It should be a compulsory internship with a full-time employment over a period of 6 months. Your place of work will be in our Head Office in Bonn Bad Godesberg, Germany.

Our Humanitarian Directorate aims at ensuring a fast, effective and adequate response to humanitarian crises and disasters and to be recognized nationally and internationally as an exemplary and competent actor. As an Intern you will gain broad insights into our humanitarian work and become familiar with one of Welthungerhilfe’s diverse areas of activities.

Your responsibilities

  • Support the development and set up of a Welthungerhilfe Humanitarian Assistance “toolbox”, consisting of guidelines and methodologies for humanitarian practitioners

  • Design and composition of thematic intranet areas to specific topics, e.g. emergency preparedness and humanitarian mapping in cooperation with thematic experts

  • Support the conceptualization of mainstreaming humanitarian standards

  • Support in visualizing and drafting SOPs for humanitarian tasks and structures

  • Global risk and crisis monitoring

  • Support the Emergency Operations Team with all tasks related to Emergency interventions in different contexts and countries

  • Review and research for different relevant humanitarian topics

  • Assist in developing humanitarian concepts and strategies

  • Preparation of reports and briefings for internal and external use

  • Preparation of meetings, conferences and other events

  • General office tasks 

With your practical and theoretical contribution, you will get a wider understanding of our humanitarian engagement at national and international level. The specific Terms of Reference for the internship will be agreed beforehand to define more closely the main objectives of the internship.

Your profile

  • Matriculated at university during the whole time of the internship - ideally obtaining a degree in humanitarian assistance studies or related fields

  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Preferably knowledge of Microsoft Sharepoint

  • Ability to easily familiarize oneself with new topics and enjoy working independently

  • Strong communication skills and joy to liaise with others

  • Broad intercultural competence

  • Excellent spoken and written English; German and/or French language skills are desired
