Ethiopia Consultant - Public Management Advisory, AFOLU Sector Project

Based in Seoul, The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is an intergovernmental organization founded to support and promote a model of economic growth known as "green growth", which targets key aspects of economic performance such a poverty reduction, job creation, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability. GGGI works with countries around the world, building their capacity and working collaboratively on green growth policies that can impact the lives of millions. The organization partners with countries, multilateral institutions, government bodies, and private sector to help build economies that grow strongly and are more efficient and sustainable in the use of natural resources, less carbon intensive, and more resilient to climate change.

GGGI Ethiopia is currently working on investment plans aligned with national and sub-national climate strategies to support private investments in strategic areas of the AFOLU sector (hereinafter “the investment opportunities”) including the following typology: bamboo plantations and processing clusters; commercial timber plantations and wood processing clusters; coffee agroforestry and processing; and support for sustainable value chains of non-timber forest products (NTFPs), particularly honey and beeswax.

A number of antecedent conditions that hamper private investment in these areas (hereinafter “the antecedent conditions”) include land availability and licensing issues, the need for value chain enhancement, lack of credit lines for forest investments, lack of technical capacity, absence of private forest sector forum or associative platforms, and lack of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs).
