Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the HR Officer, the UNV HR Officer will undertake the following tasks:

  1. Support UNICEF’s UN Volunteers programme:

  • Support the implementation of UNICEF-UNV Action Plan;
  • Implement a strategy for fostering greater UNV/UNICEF collaboration; identify opportunities to increase the number of UN Volunteers supporting UNICEF, including the use of UNV Online Volunteering service; liaise with UNV to identify UN Volunteer resources to complement UNICEF required skillsets, implement corrective strategies to strengthen the UNICEF / UNV Partnership;
  • Identify and facilitate opportunities to strengthen the UNICEF-UNV partnership at the country, regional and HQ levels, including with programming and humanitarian divisions, including through establishing business processes as required.
  • Strengthen effective integration of UN Volunteers to UNICEF e.g. induction, learning and career development opportunities;
  • Monitor and report on global information of UNVs, providing management with periodic information updates and recommendations as applicable;
  • Respond to queries on UN Volunteers from interested offices, including on internal UNICEF policies;

2. Support UNICEF’s Internship programme:

  • Respond to queries on internships from interested candidates/hiring offices/interns;
  • Monitor and report on global use of interns, providing management with periodic information updates and recommendations as applicable;
  • Work with the OneHR community, PPD and universities to establish partnerships for funded interns with key universities in as diverse a range of countries as possible.

  1. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:

  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
  • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
  • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Master degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:
  • Advanced university degree in human resources, social sciences, development studies, business administration/management, or equivalent;
Required experience: 24 Months Experience remark:
  • Minimum two years of relevant professional work experience in human resources, partnership management, communications, or another relevant field;
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and Power BI mandatory;
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required;
Language skills:
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded;

Computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media, and others).
