Unaccompanied Children Caseworker

The Unaccompanied Children Caseworker (UC Caseworker) provides trauma-informed case management and care coordination services to unaccompanied children and their households enrolled in the Unaccompanied Children program. This includes working closely with each client household to develop service plans that address individual needs utilizing a broad range of financial, medical, social, vocational, and other services and resources based on client eligibility. The UC Caseworker also supports efforts to cultivate, develop, and maintain community partnerships and other community resources in the defined service area.This position reports to the Safety & Protection Program Manager of IRC Florida.

RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

•Provide high quality, trauma-informed case management services to unaccompanied children and their sponsors to encourage and ensure progress through their individual service plans

•Continually assess ongoing changes in behavior and general conditions that could impact the safety, wellbeing, and success of program participants

•Assess and provide a recommendation for the purpose of reunifying children with their potential sponsors, including conducting interviews and background checks and documenting findings in a comprehensive report within 10 days of referral

•Complete home visits to meet with children and their sponsors post-release

•Build and maintain relationships with community services providers in relevant areas

•Assist children and their sponsors to access necessary services, including but not limited to legal services, health and mental health services, and education

•Participate in regular case management and staffing meetings

•Maintain accurate records and consistently ensure the confidentiality of information relevant to children and their cases

•Submit required reports and documentation in a timely manner

•Provide crisis intervention when necessary, including involving Child Protective Services

•Provide training, guidance, and technical support to volunteers and interns engaged in the Unaccompanied Children program

•Maintain a thorough knowledge and understanding of the regulations, reauthorizations, and related policies concerning unaccompanied children

•Support contractual compliance and reporting requirements

•Represent the IRC Miami’s Unaccompanied Children program at task force and community meetings, trainings, and IRC network calls and conferences

•Other duties as assigned

 

REQUIREMENTS:

•Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree in social work, international affairs, or human services related field preferred

•Strong commitment to ensuring the success of the IRC mission while adhering to the values of service, accountability, integrity, and equality as defined in the IRC Way

•Bilingual ability in English and Spanish

•Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write reports and business correspondence

•Experience working with immigrant populations

•Knowledge of local community social services

•Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment

•Proven ability to contribute both independently and as a key team member

•Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the ability to prioritize duties and manage time effectively

•Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook), Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and other platforms

•Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle.

Working Environment:

•A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.

•May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
