Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of WASH Specialist or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV WASH officer will work with a team of experts to addresses challenges in achieving WASH universal access through the following main components:

Contribute to the SDG-6 water and sanitation agenda with the following focus (but not limited to);

  • Review climate resilient WASH technology options suited to the various provinces and develop a knowledge product (e.g. booklet) to help the sector identify suitable technologies as well as gaps for innovations in close coordination with a WASH climate consultant
  • Review/carry out a climate risk assessment and map out climate hotpots/vulnerabilities superimposed with levels of water and sanitation services across Indonesia using Geographic Information System (GIS) software such as ArcGIS.
  • Mapping of water and sanitation technology options, especially in areas prone to climate vulnerabilities
  • Support analysis of the use of renewable energy in the WASH sector

Contribute to WASH innovation challenges with the following focus (but not limited to);

  • Review existing innovations and mobile app for monitoring WASH service and/or connecting consumer and service provider (e.g. Fecal Sludge Management, water quality monitoring) applied in Indonesia, identify gaps and design/strengthen the innovations and app

Contribute to WASH evidence-based advocacy, evidence generation and programme monitoring efforts with the following focus (but not limited to);

  • Support WASH quantitative and qualitative data analysis such as 3M monitoring data, a socio-economic survey, programme monitoring data and WASH benchmarking tool as needed.
  • Support data visualization / infographic development for presentations, proposals, donor reports and any other relevant documents as needed.
  • Regularly track and analyse UNICEF support provincial and district level data (including equity monitoring) with the intention of tracking progress towards key programme deliverables, identifying bottlenecks and taking corrective measures if progress is off track
  • Compile WASH programme implementation, preparedness, training and orientation materials to promote knowledge generation, management and sharing with counterparts, WASH sectoral stakeholders, donors and media.
  • Support the development of user friendly assessment tools for the WASH section on different thematic areas

Contribute to Information management needs of the WASH in Emergency sector as follows:

  • Maintain a document repository of all sector related information, updated contact information of humanitarian WASH partners and relevant stakeholders, standards, documents, etc., including other key datasets from other sectors for internal team use.
  • Ensure data from humanitarian WASH partners and stakeholders, including 5W information, is periodically and consistently collected and stored in a way that allows comparability and compatibility, and is available for regular and ad hoc analyses to support decision making as appropriate.
  • Use GIS mapping for development of maps and geographical/ geospatial data management
  • Work with sector stakeholders to identify information gaps at national and sub‐national levels and propose ways to bridge those gaps
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:

University degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Public Health, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geology, Hydrology, Water and/or Sanitation Engineering, or a field relevant to international WASH related development assistance including M&E, MPH and Statistics or Epidemiology.

Required experience: 36 Months Experience remark:
  • At least three years of professional work experience in international development or private sector and national government and some exposure to field work experience.
Language skills:
  • Indonesian(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
Area of expertise: Water, sanitation and environmental engineering, Statistics, Monitoring and evaluation Area of expertise details:
  • Background/familiarity with GIS and other data visualization software, WASH related engineering design, data analysis and IT skills
