Investment Associate

POSITION SUMMARY

The Investment Associate provides administrative and technical support in development of investment projects related to sustainable forest management in (and around) forest and non-forest concessions, social forestry, conservation and peatlands restoration in focal provinces under the supervision of Investment Services Lead. The associate maintains communication and relationship with key government stakeholders such as MoEF, provincial government agencies, and BPDLH as well as conducts mapping and follow ups with financiers that are active in the sustainable landscapes ecosystem to enable investment projects and programs development.

PURPOSE

The Associate supports the Investment Services Lead in development and delivery of green investment projects in GGGI’s focal provinces (North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Papua and Papua Barat) by working with project proponents (including community-based institutions, NGOs and private sector companies) as well as with MoEF, BPDLH, and other relevant national government agencies.

Specifically, the Senior Associate will

  1. Support development of deal documentation, including investment teasers, investor pitch decks and information memorandums by compiling inputs form Investment lead and stakeholders into final product.
  2. Support review of financial analysis to design/recommend suitable financial structures, identify project issues, opportunities, and risk/reward factors.
  3. Maintain and where possible expand relationships with clients, global and regional project developers, banking and multilateral partners and government officials.
  4. Compile inputs from Investment lead and relevant stakeholders to develop communication materials on green investments.
  5. Compile inputs to develop, and maintain investment documentation. 

 

ENGAGEMENT

  1. Maintain a constant channel of dialogue, support and professional communication with key government departments such as BPDLH and MoEF in order to build and sustain support for investment workstreams.
  2. Support and coordinate with provincial team members to enable implementation of investment activities at the provincial level.
  3. Develop program/project introduction and promotion materials for internal and external communication.
  4. Coordinate with project proponents and financiers on the identified investment programs to push the projects closer to implementation.

 

DELIVERY

  1. Support development of investment projects in focal provinces related to sustainable forest management with forest concession holders, social forestry post-permit implementation with forest management units and communities, conservation projects within public and private areas, and sustainable peatlands management.
  2. Assist in conducting assessments and studies for sustainable business models with stakeholders operating in sub-national jurisdictions like forest management units, communities holding social forestry permits, private sector companies etc. Examples of business models include payments for ecosystem services (PES), eco-tourism, Paludiculture commodities, sustainable timber business models, conservation business models and sustainable forest commodity production models.
  3. Develop investment documentation related to identified investment projects (e.g. PIN documents, presentations etc.) by compiling inputs from Investment lead and other stakeholders.
  4. Identify other relevant sustainable landscape projects and investments opportunities that can be brought into the BPDLH funding and project pipeline.
  5. Support GGGI in conducting stakeholder engagement, meetings, and workshops to design investment projects and programs.

 

REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATION

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in sustainable development, international relations, economics, business studies, finance, or a related discipline
  • Preferred at least 3 years of professional experience, preferably in the field of investment related to climate change, green growth and sustainable development.
  • Experience and skills in working with Indonesian stakeholders in the context of development assistance or international cooperation projects is strongly valued.
  • Excellent written and oral command of both English and Bahasa Indonesia is essential

 

FUNCTIONAL

  • Familiar with green growth in the context of developing countries and how sustainable finance plays a role in advancing sustainable landscapes.
  • Experience developing successful project proposals for traditional providers of development assistance, as well as private sector is valuable.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain strong relationships with Indonesian government staff, resource partners/ donors.
  • Experience with climate finance and investment banking is a plus.
