Overall purpose of the role:

Under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader (CBP), the Protection Officer (Capacity Building) is responsible for the engagement with communities with the view of supporting them to meet the protection needs of community members. To this avail the Protection Officer (Capacity Building) will conduct mappings of communities to identify strengths and gaps in capacity which will act as the basis for capacity building plans linked to the establishment and support of Community Based Protection Networks (CBPNs) in the target locations. The Protection Officer (Capacity Building) will be based in Khartoum with 10% travel to Gadaref and Kassala states to support ongoing protection interventions linked to capacity building.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support existing localized protection groups and form new community based protection networks (CBPNs) in target locations.
  • Hold regular follow-up meetings with CBPNs and community groups, and assist in the development of action plans to address protection concerns.
  • Support CBPNs by facilitating meaningful group dialogue and mentoring participants to self-identify protection concerns that affect their communities
  • Capacity build CBPNs to prioritize protection concerns and explore coping mechanisms and practical mitigation strategies
  • Collaborate with Protection Team Leader (CBP) on CBPNs capacity building methods by collaborating on the development of participatory tools, awareness raising sessions and training materials
  • Contribute to identification and reporting on protection risks as necessary.
  • Coordinate capacity assessments of the local partners, community groups, and stakeholders on Community Based Protection programming, including knowledge and understanding of HR/IHL/Guiding Principles, and Humanitarian Principles.
  • Contribute to comprehensive capacity building plans for local partners based on respective needs in order to support quality interventions.
  • Develop/compile training packages on selected Protection and Protection project related topics; deliver protection sensitization trainings across specified areas.
  • Provide trainings utilizing developed training packages and other materials to local partners, community groups, and stakeholders, in coordination with the Project Manager;
  • Coordinate the provision of trainings on organizational capacity in coordination with respective staff (HR, Logistics, Finance, M&E) and Project Manager.
  • Monitor application of skills gained in trainings by staff, partner organizations, community groups, and stakeholders.
  • Produce monthly reports on the progression of the capacity building plans.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationship with stakeholders including partner agencies, community leaders and service providers in the target areas for prompt referral, follow up and information sharing.
  • In coordination with the Case Management Team, contribute to the maintenance of an up-to-date service mapping of the service providers operating in the area and take proactive steps to remain informed about the available services.
  • Provide written feedback about protection incidents, social cohesion issues and aid-related community-conflicts.

Education:

  • University Degree in the field of social sciences, social work, psychology, law or any other related field
  • Substantive other relevant trainings on Protection

Languages:

  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Fluent in Arabic
