The IRC is one of the leading implementers of economic wellbeing programming in humanitarian settings, including livelihoods and cash and voucher assistance.As part of these efforts, a robust research agenda has been developed to generate needed evidence on how to best deliver economic programming.This intern would support study specific responsibilities as part of this agenda.The intern would also engage closely with the research team as part of the Airbel Impact Lab, a hub for research and innovation at the IRC.

Internship Overview: The Economic Research intern will provide study specific support to a growing portfolio of studies.The intern will specifically be tasked with coding, cleaning, and providing preliminary quantitative analyses for studies focused on women’s economic empowerment, financial inclusion, and cash and markets.Additional tasks may include supporting staff trainings on economic data collection activities . The intern will meet weekly with the Research Cooridnator to discuss assigned activities and professional interests, and may connect the intern to other staff through 1:1 meetings depending on technical interests.

Major Responsibilities:

•Coding, cleaning, and providing preliminary quantitative analyses for studies focused on women’s economic empowerment, financial inclusion, and cash and markets

•Conducting a literature review on agricultural livelihoods and resiliency interventions related to climate change in humanitarian settings

•Supporting drafting concept notes or other research findings in the form of blogs, one-pagers, and other practitioner friendly briefs

Learning Outcomes:

•Build skills in data cleaning, coding, and basid quantitative analyses

•Build literature review skills for agricultural livelihoods and climate change in humanitarian contexts

•Contribute to concept notes outlining research priorities for economic research

•Translate and integrate academic literature into digestible, practical summaries and tools for pratcitioners

•Observe, interact, and network with different units within IRC and their teams

Job Requirements:

Education: Pursuing bachelors or master’s degree in Economics, Epidemiology or related Social Sciences

Work Experience: Experience or familiarity with data analyses, survey design, report writing

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies: Data management skills using excel, SAS, R, STATA, or other platform.Ability to work independently and analyze and communicate findings effectively to various audiences.

Language Skills:English required, Spanish an additional asset.

Working Environment: 

•This role requires working remotely full-time (i.e., telecommuting).

•Applicants must have a home or alternate workspace they can effectively complete their work from during scheduled work hours.
