Nutrition Specialist

Position is short-term through 31st, December 2021 with the possibility to extend contingent on funding availability.

The Nutrition team is part of the health unit that provides technical support in primary health, sexual and reproductive health, nutrition and environmental health. Our nutrition priorities seek to ensure women and children are well-nourished by protecting them from all forms of undernutrition. Our role is to advance program quality in nutrition through evidence, data, and delivery models to drive performance. We also invest in systems, structures and support to improve the scale, efficiency and impact of nutrition programs globally. We increase access to, and continuity of, treatment and prevention of undernutriton. We’re simplifying diagnosis and treatment, bringing care closer to home and at scale.

Specific Responsibilities:

The Specialist will support nutrition team priorities strengthening global technical expertise and leading on measurement and assessments. The remaining time will be spent on providing respectful, responsive and collaborative support to countries as needed across Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. The specific responsibilities include:

•Lead nutrition knowledge management and develop operational resources, training and tools on the nutrition outcomes and evidence framework to improve expertise on scaling, SURGE, CMAMI, micronutrient supplementation and fortification, cash and voucher assistance and social and behavior change strategies

•Serve as focal point on nutrition measurement ensuring quality monitoring of programs through: presentation and analysis of results, revising and developing data collection tools for nutrition core indicators, training on quality nutrition M&E and analysis and reporting.

•Improve the quality of monitoring of global nutrition programs by developing and piloting the nutrition data platform, synthesizing lessons learned and adapting the system to meet the needs of the end users

•Support quality nutrition assessments by providing training, technical guidance, supervision, data analysis and report writing (on Trials of Improved Practices, Cost of diet, IYCF quantitative and qualitative, SQUEAC and SCAN cost-efficiency analyses)

•Lead nutrition priority initiatives and participate in joint initiatives with health colleagues and other IRC technical units

•Participate in inter-agency working groups

Country Support:

•Support technical training, coaching and mentoring

•Support project design and delivery by partnering with technical counterparts to analyze data and share program-specific tools/resources/curricula to drive improvements in quality, access and outcomes

•Conduct technical support visits as needed

Job Qualifications:

 

Education: University degree in related field plus Master’s degree in Public Health, Public Health Nutrition or Global Nutrition is required.

Skills: Ability to work optimally and respectfully on diverse teams and across diverse contexts. Good technical acuity, takes initiative and produces results, ability to accept feedback and integrate it, strong communication and presentation skills and a dedication to contribute to a positive work environment. Committed to upholding diversity, equality and inclusion principles. Good level interpersonal skills with a high level of English oral and written skills. Ability to proficiently communicate and write in French.

Work Experience: A minimum of 3 years of international experience is required leading nutrition responses in humanitarian settings. Expertise and experience working in the community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM) and on prevention to undernutrition is required. Knowledge and experience in nutrition M&E, software and leading assessments is required. Experience in M&E software and nutrition assessment methodologies (SQUEAC, IYCF, TIPS and cost-of diet) is an advantage.

Working Environment: Based in the New York or Washington DC office. Currently, the position is temporarily remote. Ability to travel up to 30% is required (in future)

Language Skills: Fluency in English and proficiency in French are required. Proficiency in Spanish and/or Arabic is desirable
