Organizational Setting

The Division of Energy Planning and Nuclear Information and Knowledge comprises the Planning and Economic Studies Section, Nuclear Knowledge Management Section and the Nuclear Information Section. The Division is responsible for strengthening capacities in energy and nuclear power planning, building capacities to manage nuclear knowledge and provide knowledge management services to interested member states, and to procure and provide printed and electronic information in the area of nuclear science and technology.

The Planning and Economic Studies Section has two objectives. One objective is to enhance the capacity of Member States to perform their own analyses related to electricity and energy system development, energy investment planning and energy–environment policy formulation and to understand the associated economic implications. The other objective is to improve understanding of the potential role of nuclear energy in the context of mitigating climate change and contributing to sustainable energy development.

 

Main Purpose

 

Reporting to the Planning and Capacity Building Unit Head, the Analyst/Planner (Energy Systems) ensures that the specialized application software of the IAEA's analytical tools for energy systems analysis (energy models) are well maintained and functional on various computer systems/platforms, and that approved enhancements to the energy models are incorporated in an efficient manner ensuring compliance with the standards and compatibility with end-user resources.

 

Role

 

The Analyst/Planner is\: (1) an energy systems modeller, engaged in analyzing, designing, developing, improving, enhancing and maintaining specialized analytical tools for energy systems analysis (energy models/tools); (2) an analyst, contributing to the design and validation of analytical tools, and; (3) a team member, contributing as required to various data queries and analysis in support of programme objectives.

Implement, as required, upgrading and maintenance of specialized application software of analytical tools for energy systems analysis (energy tools/models).
Contribute to the updating and maintenance of the cloud-based energy systems analysis tools, energy information resources and technical support systems for the end-uses.
Build systems as required and contribute technical knowledge to the development and enhancement of eLearning packages.
Validate the functionality of energy models on various computer systems/platforms by designing and implementing validation tests.
Provide data and analysis support to the Unit Head for the IAEA's programme on capacity building for sustainable energy development.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

 

University degree in Energy Systems Analysis, Operations Research, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Energy Engineering or other relevant field.

Minimum of five years of working experience in developing and maintaining specialised application software with focus on energy system modelling and analysis.
Experience in working with multicultural and multidisciplinary teams.

Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

 

Remuneration

 

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $62120 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 31992, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance
