Job Description: The Social Worker position is responsible for community outreach and facilitation of psychosocial group sessions and home visits, gathering children’s profiles, working with the Chief of Soweto and District Children’s office, and providing counseling services to children and youth under ZLT’s guardianship. The Social Worker will work closely with the Country Operations Manager and ZLT Safe House Manager to develop support plans for the children and youth under the ZLT Safe House guardianship, and coordinated efforts for community work. 

The position supports the alignment between ZLT Safe House and community programs to support single-parent households reach financial independence. 

Duties & Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning:

  • Support the ZLT Safe House team with psychological support for the children and youth under ZLT’s guardianship

  • Monitor and track the process of counseling services provided to the children and youth under ZLT’s guardianship 

  • Foster community partnerships with existing organizations providing support services to survivors of sexual violence and domestic abuse 

  • Maintain relationship with government officials in children’s offices as well as community chiefs 

  • Maintain high-level knowledge on a country context in trauma and psychological supports for survivors of sexual violence and abuse, socioeconomic factors leading to vulnerabilities, and general education and awareness of GBV and economic empowerment strengthening communities 

Management and Coordination:

  • Support planning, monitoring, reporting, accountability of women, children, and youth supported by ZLT Hope Homes programming and Safe House 

  • Work alongside the International Director and Country Operations Manager to recognize and manage risk, set clear quality and accountability standards, and support transparency in decision-making processes

  • Triage issues for the Country Operations Manager and ZLT Safe House Manager and find solutions collectively 

  • Identify and coordinate support needs from other departments as needed (HR, Finance, Technical, Admin)

  • Identify and coordinate support needs for programs under ZLT Hope Homes

Program Implementation and Monitoring:

  • Provide weekly reports to Country Operations Manager, ZLT Safe House Manager, and ZLT Hope Homes International Director 

  • Encourage constant focus on solutions and results, active learning, sharing of knowledge, and innovation for cost-efficient, effective, and sustainable alternatives that will impact more women and children affected by sexual violence, harassment, and abuse

  • Monitor program implementation through site visits and regular communications

Communications:

  • In collaboration with the Marketing team, review the information and communications materials as related to fieldwork 

 Qualifications:

Required:

  • Related B.Sc./B.A. or equivalent degree; A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in a related field

  • Strong planning and documentation skills

  • Prior success working closely and building relationships with diverse groups of people

  • Prior experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented global or regional organization

  • Proven track record of achieving results

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Swahili 

  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously and take initiative

  • Experience working with vulnerable populations

  • Experience working with survivors of sexual violence 

  • Certifications in providing counseling services
