We Effect is a development organisation founded by the Swedish cooperative movement in 1958 to support the development of democratic organisations and societies. In our international development cooperation programmes, we are applying a human rights-based approach supporting people living in poverty to secure their rights. We Effect works in 20  countries in Asia, Europe, Latin America and Africa through our regional offices in partnership with local CSO’s, farmer organisations, cooperative federations and other democratic organisations. We Effect is now recruiting a Media Officer. The position is part of the Media and Advocacy Department. The position is based in Stockholm, with a global digital reach. 

 

Main responsibilities

As our media officer, your job is to be responsible for positioning We Effect’s role in the Swedish public sphere, and create public opinion, on- and offline, for issues we focus on. You will develop and maintain excellent media relations and support colleagues in Sweden and around the world to professionally communicate both development results and address challenges and crises situations. Your most important allies are the more than 60 cooperative organisations and companies that stand behind We Effect. As media officer, you sometimes need to work early mornings or late nights, but within our 37,5 working hours in an average week. Travelling to countries where We Effect work is also part of the job, both physically and digitally. 

 

Main tasks

• Develop and implement media strategies, projects and activities. 

• Support the Secretary General in media and advocacy work.

• Pro-actively making use of relevant media and advocacy tools, including OpEd:s, media releases, tweets, Q&A:s, video clips, speaking notes, Facebook posts, and seminars.  

• Supporting the organisation’s crises response team when needed. 

• Provide media support to the global organisation. 

• Stay informed on current events and crisis situations in Sweden, and countries where We Effect operate, and support the organisation accordingly.

 

About you

As We Effect’s Media Officer you are a results-oriented optimist that gets the job done, in partnership with other passionate colleagues. You understand what a journalist or politician needs to do their jobs. In the past or currently, you might be working as a press secretary for a political organisation, as a news reporter, or a consultant at a public relations agency. 

You share our values, are committed to political change, and understand what role international development cooperation can play in that process. You need to understand the logic of civil society organisations and have an interest in the cooperative business sector in Sweden. The role comes with high personal responsibility.

 

Required qualifications

• Degree from relevant education. 

• A minimum of three years of relevant work life experience.

• Fluent in English and Swedish.

 

Merits

Experience in working in Swedish politics and digital opinion-making in social media.

Experience of international development cooperation.

Experience of Photography, Social Media Content development and Film Editing.
