ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

This position is based in the WFP Makeni Sub Office, and entails supporting implementation of the Management of Moderate Acute Malnutrition in crisis response ensuring vulnerable populations meet their nutritional needs after under activity 1 and address chronic malnutrition under activity 4: Activity 1: Provide food and nutrition assistance to crisis-affected households and support their recovery needs. WFP Sierra Leone’s 2020 – 24 Country Strategic Plan.

 

At this level, job holders are expected to demonstrate responsibility and initiative to respond independently to various queries with only general guidance. There is a requirement to use judgment in dealing with unforeseen operational problems daily. Job holders are expected to manage resources, coach and coordinate support staff.

Reports typically to the Head of Sub-Office and indirectly to Nutritionist at Country Office.

JOB PURPOSE

To provide effective specialized support and technical analyses to policy and programme activities that effectively meet food assistance needs.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Provide technical support and assist in the development and implementation of Nutrition Programs and activities within the specific area of work supporting alignment with Government priorities.
  • Provide Nutrition Programs Management support to prevention of chronic malnutrition, Management of Moderate Acute Malnutrition, and other nutrition programs at Sub-office level, ensure that the various activities are performed within the established targets following WFP’s policies and procedures.
  • Provide support to government counterparts on WFP supply chain and financial standards for program implemented monthly.
  • Prepare monthly program reports and database for food assistance needs, resource utilization, programme status, performance and highlight trends/issues ensuring deliverables adhere to corporate standards and quality control.
  • Liaise with internal counterparts to support effective collaboration, implementation, and monitoring of ongoing project activities.
  • Closely monitor Nutrition commodities from stock reports update and provide guidance on deliveries and utilization in a timely manner,
  • Coordinate and communicate with Government institutions, UN agencies, NGOs, and other institutions to ensure efficient delivery of food assistance in all nutrition programs under the sub office.
  • Support the capacity building of WFP staff, and national government in management of Moderate Acute Malnutrition and implementation of prevention of chronic malnutrition.

  • Act as a point of contact for resolution of a range of operational queries and problems for nutrition programs implemented in district under the sub office.  
  • Support and review nutrition related documents within the nutrition unit, providing practical advice and guidance, to contribute to delivering objectives to agreed standards and deadlines.
  • Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to ensure WFP is able to quickly respond and deploy needed resources to affected areas at the onset of the crisis.
  • Any other related duties as required.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of secondary school education. Preferably a university degree in, Nutrition and Dietetics, Public Health or Social Sciences, or other related field or a diploma supplemented with at least 4 years of relevant work experience.   


Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English. Fluency in local languages highly desirable.
