Team Overview:

 

The first case of corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) in December 2019 and in January 2020, the WHO declared the COVID-19 outbreak a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) and subsequently in March 2020 as a pandemic. To respond to COVID-19, South Africa’s National Department of Health (NDoH) set up an Incident Management Team (IMT) and partnered working nationally and provincially to coordinate the health response and provide stewardship and strategic guidance to ensure successful and sustained implementation.

 

Position Overview:

 

CHAI is seeking a highly motivated individual with excellent analytical ability and strong communication skills to play a key role in the COVID-19 program in South Africa. The Analyst will input to a growing CHAI team and will be expected to support the DoH to create, execute and monitor evidence-based plans and strategies. The Analyst will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks, from quantitative analysis to collaborating with stakeholders and assisting the team with components, which will contribute to investment cases, improvements in supply chain, market intelligence, demand forecasting and/or quantification.

 

Staff are expected to follow the heightened response guidance for COVID-19 with regard to social distancing, wearing of masks, hygiene control and symptom management in line with government guidance and CHAI directives. This post will require attendance and meetings in locations such as the Department of Health. We would ask candidates to note this fact and request that any candidate who have concerns about covering these to raise them at the interview.The Analyst will be based in Pretoria, South Africa and report to the relevant COVID-19 Program Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting the National Department of Health (NDoH) in all areas of national COVID-19 efforts, including planning and implementation ensuring CHAI’s ongoing alignment with NDoH strategic goals and priorities;
  • Compile, synthesize and analyse data to inform the development of assessments, reports and other program materials to ensure effective program execution;
  • Lead in data capturing and support in managing data collection databases, survey instruments and data collection protocols;
  • Supporting in maintaining program databases and dashboards for performance monitoring and evaluation;
  • Support in M&E efforts with the aim to maintain and update comprehensive, feasible M&E frameworks that will generate credible, actionable and timely information;
  • Support in data management and analysis tools such as indicator dashboards to monitor and track ongoing work;
  • Conduct routine field supervision visits, data collection, and routine data analysis of program data;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree economics, public health, financial management, or related;
  • Minimum of one year of professional experience. Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including attention to detail and advanced technical proficiency with MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word;
  • Willingness to travel within South Africa as needed.
