Organizational Setting

The FAO Representation in Bangladesh is responsible for leading FAO's response to regional priorities for food security, agriculture and rural development through the identification, planning, and implementation of FAO's priority activities in the country. It ensures a multidisciplinary approach to programmes, identifies priority areas of action for the Organization in Bangladesh and, in collaboration with Regional Office Asia and Pacific and the departments and divisions at Headquarters, develops, promotes and oversees FAO's strategic response to the country priorities. The representation also supports the regional office in the incorporation of regional priorities into the Organization's Programme of Work and Budget and implements approved programmes and projects in the country, monitors the level of programme implementation and draws attention to problems and deficiencies. The office also develops and maintains relations with Government of Bangladesh, UN agencies, the resource partners and other development institution at the country level.

Reporting Lines

The Data Analysis and MIS Specialist position and will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Bangladesh, and direct supervision of the assigned Project Team Leader or Manager and other relevant project staff.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate project activities with local stakeholders, including livestock, environment, FAO, farmer groups/producer organizations;
  • Provide guidance for the active collection of information and relevant samples during project activities; and assist in providing solutions and tools and platforms for field data collection and data storage/collation/analysis and provide guidance and training on the use of these tools;
  • Support the conduct of Webinar/Training/ meeting and of integration of partner organization;
  • Design, implement and support off-line and Web-oriented database applications as adding to the existing food security and nutrition database;
  • Perform data analysis for small-scale survey on food policy issues;
  • Collect, validate and organize statistical information needed for food security and nutrition policy analysis and monitoring (including primary or secondary data from various sources, including statistical publications, questionnaire or reports);
  • Develop and prepare statistical tables and graphs for analysis;
  • Monitor data quality in a database and identifying/correcting inconsistencies;
  • Develop and prepare computer programmes to produce tabulations for publications; produce ad hoc report from database(s), using statistical software to respond to request from a variety of sources;
  • Prepare statistical material and documentation for internal and international meetings;
  • Perform various statistical computations, using statistical software, in order to produce specific analyses and programmes edits, such as to identify or forecast events and patterns; and
  • Perform other related duties as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • Higher degree in Information and Communication Technology, computer science and engineering, Mathematics/Statistics/Agricultural Economic with ICT major;
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional-level experience in management of data or analytical systems is required;
  • National of Bangladesh

Technical/Functional Skills

  • Experience translating statistical, regression and visualization results into reports, briefing documents or presentations, application software, data management systems, including communications, online learning, and capacity building are preferred;
  • Experience in the design of agricultural experimentations, translating data into practices, briefing documents or presentations, application software, data management systems, including communications, online learning, and capacity building are preferred
  • Data analysis using statistical software ;
  • Manage Information Technology ;
  • Strong knowledge of and experience in using advanced Excel ;
  • Ability to present information in understandable tables, charts and graphs ;
  • Data storage and file management expertise ;
  • Willingness and ability to work in difficult environments, in often stressful time- critical situations ;
  • Demonstrated innovative thinking and practical execution;
  • Ability to solve problems, use initiative, and manage work under limited supervision;
  • Applicant have a working knowledge of English (written and verbal) and local dialect is preferred.
