Travel:

  1. UNDP will cover the cost of travel of the individual to the duty station, as well as their return to their home upon completion of their services. Travel costs are covered only in the event that the function will be undertaken physically in the duty station and excludes working from home arrangements.
  2. Any travels related to official performance of duties will be covered by UNDP.

Office/Unit/Project Description 

The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA) is responsible for UNDP’s external relations and advocacy functions. The Bureau leads and supports the organization in cultivating, building and nurturing strategic relationships and alliances that are essential for advancing and successfully achieving the mission of UNDP. These relationships encompass a wide range and number of key constituencies and development partners, that includes programme countries, existing and prospective donor countries/emerging economic powers, multilateral institutions such as the IFIs, the European Commission, civil society, the private sector, foundations, academia and think tanks, the wider UN system, various UN inter-governmental bodies, as well as global, regional and national media.

The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy consists of the Directorate, Public Partnerships Group, and Communications Group. In addition, BERA has 6 Representation Offices in 6 major donor capitals, namely: Brussels, Copenhagen, Geneva, Tokyo, Washington and Bonn. 

The IPSA will be working in the Partner Portfolio Management (PPM) Team, Public Partnerships Group in BERA.

The PPM team’s main areas of responsibility are:

  • Build and manage strategic partnerships with OECD donors, and as part of that protect and strengthen their flexible resource contributions.
  • Provide political analysis and donor intelligence to inform funding projections and to position the organization and its senior leadership with key government partners.
  • Build networks and partnerships within HQ and at regional and country level to support the coordination of non-core resource mobilization.

Institutional Arrangement

The IPSA will report to the PPM Team Leader. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support partnership development management and portfolio analysis.
  • Support coordination of core and non-core resource mobilization initiatives.
  • Collate expert RM and partnership advice, tools and intelligence on resource mobilization for internal clients, including country offices.
  • Build and maintain effective internal and external networks for donor relations.
  • Contribute to knowledge building and knowledge sharing across BERA Partnerships teams

Required Skills and Experience

 

Min. Academic Education

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent Advanced Degree in international affairs, economics, development studies or a related area.

Min. years of relevant Work experience

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in development, international relations, social science, economics, communications, or related field
  • Experience working with development partners including OECD DAC donors, and/or on partnership approaches and or strategies, and/or partner relations.

Desired additional skills and competencies

  • Knowledge of and previous experience in UNDP and/or another UN entity is desired.
  • Experience in the use of business intelligence tool developing communication materials with visuals.
  • Hands-on experience in design and implementation of innovative and strategic partnerships and related events.
  • Experience in the use of digital tools including social media and web-based design.

Required Language(s) (at working level)

  • Fluency in English (written and oral) a must
  • Knowledge of other UN languages desirable
