To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Additional duties may be assigned.

  1. Responsible for the Headquarters disbursement function. This involves the accurate and timely processing of outgoing domestic and international wires in accordance with the established rules, regulations, and systems of UNICEF. Follow-up on failed payment transmissions and resolving any issues. Ensure the interface between the accounting system and the banking payment system includes all items intended for payment.
  2. Provide guidance to other UNICEF locations on ERP system banking issues such as how to determine the correct bank account, payment method and routing of EFT payments.
  3. Maintain current knowledge of any applicable regulations and sanctions, including OFAC restrictions, that could affect international wire transfers.
  4. Manage the receipt process. Ensure actions taken by other colleagues are accurate and timely regarding the deposit of funds, recording of receipts, recording/recouping returned cheques, and confirm all cheques routed to Cashiers-NY are received.
  5. Perform daily reconciliations of Headquarters’ cash positions in multiple currencies. 
  6. Secondary responsibility for back-up support covering Treasury accounting and financial reporting, and cash flow forecasting and analysis. Additionally, provide back-up support to section colleagues working on financial transactions supporting programme objectives.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A first-level university degree (Bachelor's) in Accounting, Banking, Business Administration, Financial Management, Economics, or a directly related technical field(s) is required.

    A valid professional certification (CA; CPA; etc.) from an accredited institution is highly desirabl

  • A minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience in the processing of domestic and international wires is required. Working knowledge of SWIFT messaging and processes. Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Excel, Word and Powerpoint.

  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
