1. General Background

In the context of the Venezuela Situation, UNHCR and IOM have been directed by the UN Secretary-General to co-lead the regional response, for which the Regional Interagency Coordination Platform and the Regional Refugee and Migrant Response Plan (RMRP) are two of the fundamental components.

In addition to the institutional commitment and broader coordination responsibilities, the 2021 RMRP brings together 159 appealing organizations¿ activities across 17 countries, with a total financial requirement of USD 1.44 billion.

On the UNHCR side, the Regional Platform Coordination Team, which coordinates the Regional Platform as well as the Inter-Sector Coordination Group (bringing together 9 sectors and 6 thematic working groups), while maintaining a coordinated dialogue with the 8 National or Sub-Regional Coordination Platforms across the region, forms part of the Regional Bureau for the Americas¿ External Engagement Pillar, as an Inter-Agency Unit.¿¿¿¿¿

2. Purpose and Scope of Assignment

The incumbent of this position will be based at UNHCR's Regional Bureau for the Americas in Panama City, Panama. Working under the supervision of the Senior Inter-Agency Coordinator, Graphic Designer will be responsible for providing graphic design support to the Inter-agency Coordination Platform for Refugees and Migrants from Venezuela.

As such, the incumbent will need to have demonstrated knowledge and experience implementing branding guidelines and analyzing relevant data and visualizing it in a visually appealing and intuitive manner. To undertake this, the candidate will require sound knowledge of design document layout and social media content production, familiarity with the analysis of data and mechanisms of reporting, so to be able to design different R4V branded products.  


Primary responsibilities and functions:

- Provide graphic design support to the R4V Platform.
- Layout of documents such as response plans, thematic reports, and infographics.
- Design of invitations, agendas, and other digital content.
- Production of illustrations and graphics for printing.
- Production of content for social networks.
- Support in graphic design for web page widgets.
- Contribute to positioning the correct use of the R4V brand in support of the different sectors and national and sub-regional platforms.
- Complement the R4V brand guidelines with the creation of templates, adaptations in other languages, among others.
- Support in video production and editing.
- Creation of gif and short videos in basic 2D animation.
- Photo retouching.
- Logo design.
- Other duties as required.

3. Monitoring and Progress Controls

In close coordination and consultation with the Senior Inter-Agency Coordinator and, where applicable, relevant in-house units of the Regional Bureau fand Headquarters (e.g. External Relations/Communications) the Designer will undertake the following:

-Design products for high level events, such as Donors Conferences and the RMRP launch.
-Support in the creation of different advocacy and public information materials relevant to the R4V Platform.

In his/her engagement with R4V partners and platforms the Designer will keep abreast of the different support needed and will consult with his supervisor to prioritize work.

The candidate will work as part of UNHCR¿s inter-agency team and liaise with in-house units, incl. Communication, Coordination, Protection, Information Management, as well as external stakeholders. As part of this team, the Designer will support the different areas by creating the needed layouts, infographics, data visualization, templates and products according to the different priorities.¿¿

4. Qualifications and Experience

a. Education (Level and area of required and/or preferred education)
Educational background: ¿¿¿¿¿
- A university diploma (3 years; Master or equivalent) in Audiovisual Communication, Communication Sciences, Design, Cinema, Audiovisual Arts or related is required.

b. Work Experience
(List number of years and area of required work experience. Clearly distinguish between required experience and experience which could be an asset.)
3 years relevant experience with Undergraduate degree; or 2 years relevant experience with Graduate degree; or 1 year relevant experience with Doctorate degree.

Essential:
¿ Design experience such as infographics, report layouting.
¿ Experience in branding design.
¿ Desired illustration experience.

Desirable:
¿ Graphic design production experience for a global humanitarian, NGO or related organization.
¿ Experience in video editing.
¿ Basic 2D animation experience.
¿ Experience in photo retouching.

c. Key Competencies
(Technical knowledge, skills, managerial competencies or other personal competencies relevant to the performance of the assignment.  Clearly distinguish between required and desired competencies)

An excellent working-level command of the English and Spanish language is needed in order to interact with country offices, regional and national Platforms and members.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new tools in the collection, analysis and visualisation of data.
- Expert use of the Adobe Creative Cloud suite: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, among others.
- Ability to write and communicate concisely.
- Good coordination skills between multifunctional teams.
- Interest in humanitarian work.
- Ease of translating texts from English to Spanish and vice versa.
- Familiarity with the use of social networks and their formats.
- English and Spanish spoken and written of excellent level.
