Organizational Setting and Work Relationships
The Data Management Associate is normally supervised by a professional staff member who provides the incumbent with general guidance and workplans. The incumbent works quite independently with an oversight from the supervisor. S/he may directly supervise some support staff.
Contracts are mainly with the colleagues in the same duty station to exchange information and to discuss the work plans. External contacts are with the national and local authorities for gathering and exchange of data.

Duties
- Manage the use, maintenance and technical support of databases used in the Operation, including planning and overseeing data collection, input and verifications; production of standard and ad hoc reports.
- Generate statistical reports based on the standard reporting formats and ad-hoc reports, charts and tables as required by the management.
- Provide training, as necessary, to UNHCR staff as well as staff-members of implementing partners in relevant aspects of data management.
- May be required to coordinate with the GIS colleagues to ensure that data collection is compatible with GIS.
- Archive and backup database systems; ensure security of databases; perform database administrator functions.
- Assist in development of new applications/databases needed by the UNHCR Offices/Units in area of responsibilities in order to perform their tasks smoothly.
- Ensure that the clients' databases are up-to-date by identifying and keeping what is relevant and accurate in an accessible manner.
- May be required to support registration activities including ProGres technical support and on-site assistance.
- May be required to support voluntary repatriation activities including reconciliation of VolRep data from country of asylum and encashment centers, verification of Voluntary Repatriation Forms (VRFs) and coordination with VolRep Centers (VRCs) on information issues.
- Develop forms and tools for data collection and analysis.
- Have access to relevant data and records.
- Perform other related duties as required.

======================================================================================================== The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is the UN Agency dedicated to protect the rights and seek durable solutions of people who have been forced to flee, including refugees,  returnees, stateless people, the internally displaced and asylum-seekers. UNHCR has presence in more than 125 countries.

The National Office in Guatemala opened in 2015 in order to strengthen UNHCR¿s protection work in the region as part of the UNHCR¿s Regional Protection and Solutions Strategy for the North of Central America.

The Data Management Associate will function under the supervision of the Information Management Officer in close coordination and consultation with the Regional Information Management Officer. The incumbent will provide assistance for the management of data collection and reporting activities of the operation, to ensure the Office has reliable and up-to-date data on persons of concern.

The incumbent operationalizes country-specific common data standards and promote them with partners, including UNHCR data standards and the IASC Common Operational Datasets, compiles and explores data from all populations of concern. S/he supports the Programme Team and UNHCR¿s implementing partners in the choice of indicators for monitoring, reviewing data collection tools to be included in sub-agreements as well as the Protection Team in operationalizing protection monitoring systems.

S/he is required to have basic conceptual knowledge of the profession, be dynamic and able to take on higher responsibility progressively. In performing his/her functions, the incumbent will refer to official UN and UNHCR manuals and guidelines. Upon receiving instructions from the supervisor, the Data Management Associate is also expected to have contacts within the organization and outside the duty station, as well as with partners and other stakeholders to collect information, support data management activities and implement administrative requirements. It is also expected to assist field office when needed.

It is also expected that the Data Management Associate provide trainings when needed to colleagues and partner in matters related to data and information management. S/he will have to take part in interagency activities and other meetings representing UNHCR when needed.
