Job Purpose and Organizational Context
 
The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA) is responsible for positioning UNDP as the world’s leading global development agency, promoting its global authority and thought leadership on sustainable development and the interconnected issues of poverty, inequality, and climate change. BERA leads and supports UNDP in building and nurturing strategic relationships and alliances essential to achieving its mission. Creating strong political and financial backing for UNDP by providing partners and supporters with a clear understanding of what UNDP does and how our mission, capabilities and flagship services relate to them. The Bureau leads UNDP’s work on innovative and diversified partnerships and ways of financing the Decade of Action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. It is also responsible for global campaigns on critical development issues, which aim to inform government policies and build partnerships around high-impact solutions. BERA coordinates and sets corporate standards across the functions of partnerships, marketing and communications within UNDP and leads on internal communications.
 
The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy is positioned around three service lines; Public Partnership; Advocacy, Marketing and Communications; and Private and Finance Partners, all working in close collaboration and coordination under the guidance of the Directorate and with the support of the Management Support Unit and Strategic Analysis and Engagement team. 
 
BERA has a robust network of Representation Offices (Brussels, Copenhagen, Geneva, Tokyo and Washington D.C.) and Regional Teams in five hubs (Africa, Arab States, Asia Pacific, Europe and CIS, and Latin American and the Caribbean) co-led with Regional Bureaux, all of which play a critical role in audience centric communications and management and strengthening of relationships with Public and Private Partners to help build a strong brand for UNDP within the local ecosystem. 
 
Working within the Advocacy, Marketing and Communications Group, the Brand and Marketing Specialist will support the development, execution and management of UNDP’s corporate brand and marketing strategies. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team composed of analytics, creative, and operations professionals, the selected candidate will be critical in defining the direction of UNDP’s brand, as well as devising and optimize successful campaigns to increase awareness and engagement across target audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and coordinate the implementation of UNDP’s global brand and marketing strategies;
  • Advise internal stakeholders, promoting and enforcing brand guidelines, and advancing alignment and consistency;
  • Determine target audiences’ profiles and interests, conduct brand awareness and perception studies, and gather insights on competitive landscape;
  • Plan, set up and optimize campaigns in diverse channels—from Google Ads to social and traditional media;
  • Drive the execution of brand and marketing products, ensuring that creative executions are aligned with and support strategies;
  • In collaboration with other teams in the Advocacy, Marketing and Communications Group, manage the production of select corporate multilingual communications products (Illustrated Annual Report, brochures, fact sheets in print and digital formats, including donor-targeted marketing products);
  • Coordinate and support the Public Partnerships Group, acting as the main focal point for on-brand partner  communications strategies and design of key corporate offers,  across teams in the Advocacy, Marketing and Communications Group.  
  • Create and lead the execution of campaigns to promote growth in reach and conversions for UNDP Shop, strengthening association between UNDP and the SDGs.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:
  • Master’s degree in marketing, business administration, management, communications or related fields. 
  • First degree is acceptable with additional years of relevant work experience.
Experience:
  • A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in marketing and branding, including strong project management skills; 
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing branding and marketing campaigns and applying creative communications approaches; 
  • Proven experience in overseeing and developing brand and marketing strategies for multiple audiences, including donors, policymakers, and general public;
  • Experience with marketing analytics and customer relationship management;
  • Proven experience setting up and optimizing successful Google Ads, social media and email marketing campaigns;
  • Experience with e-commerce and conversion optimization desirable.
Language Requirements:
  • Fluency in English is required. 
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is desirable 
Other:
  • Excellent writing, speaking, presenting and listening skills required;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with senior management and cross-functional team members;
  • Excellent organization and project management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office package required, especially PowerPoint, Word and Excel;
  • Creativity, adaptability and familiarity with current marketing trends;
  • Sense of aesthetics and love for creative copy and witty communication desirable.
