The Global Crop Diversity Trust is seeking an outstanding candidate for the position of:

 

Genebank Information System Officer

 

The Crop Trust develops and maintains databases and associated software that support the work of the world’s crop genebanks, specifically GRIN-Global Community Edition (GG-CE), a community-driven version of GRIN-Global software for genebank collection management.

As a member of the Science team and in close cooperation with other relevant staff members, the position will advance the Crop Trust’s efforts to develop GG-CE to meet the needs of genebank technicians, curators and other users. The position reports to the Information Systems Program Manager.

 

The Genebank Information System Officer will:

  • Provide guidance and support to genebanks in adoption of GG-CE with regards to data mapping, cleaning, validation and uploading;
  • Understand and document user needs and translate this understanding into the development of user interfaces wireframes and conceptual solutions;
  • Provide support to users and act as an interface between the users and the software development team;
  • Develop and maintain user guides and documentation;
  • Present GG-CE at workshops and meetings;
  • Prepare and post release notes and newsletters;
  • Contribute to annual reports.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer sciences, or other relevant field such as natural sciences, statistics;
  • At least 5 years hands-on experience in informatics;
  • Experience with writing and communicating technical content;
  • Experience with data cleaning, management and analysis;
  • Familiarity in the area of genetic resource conservation and use is an advantage;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to interact effectively with a wide range of partners from different cultural backgrounds;
  • Excellent English written and spoken required; working knowledge of Spanish and French will be an advantage.

 

Terms and Conditions: The Trust offers an attractive remuneration package including a competitive salary, non-contributory retirement savings plan, medical insurance and leave provisions. This is a General Service position classified as Level 3, with the highest Level in the General Service Grade Levels being Level 3. The salary range for this level starts at Euro 40,000. Staff of the Global Crop Diversity Trust (including German nationals) are exempt from host country income tax. All benefits are denominated and paid Euros. Relocation costs are not covered. The initial contract will be for a period of three year, subject to a probationary period of one year.
