The Safety and Wellness Unit at the IRC San Diego ensures that refugees, asylees, SIV (special immigrant visa holders) with unique emergency and/or long-term needs have the support necessary to integrate into their new communities and become self-sufficient.

Job Overview/Summary: The Safety and Wellness internship consists of a combination of direct client service and project-based assignments. The primary objective of this position is to meet the needs of the Safety and Wellness Unit while simultaneously developing the intern’s skills and knowledge.

Learning Objectives:

·Intern will gain experience in health navigation and promotion for community members

·Intern will gain experience in resource development

·Intern will gain experience in and understanding of administrative tasks that support social service provision

·Intern will gain experience in networking with community organizations and building inter-agency relationships

·Intern will develop understanding of the basic day-to-day work of intensive case management

Major Responsibilities: Possible assignments as follows. Specific assignments dependent on current department needs.

·Advocacy support/case management for asylum seekers, survivors of domestic violence and other crimes targeted for referrals to health, housing and legal support

·Wellness and Health Navigation

·Office Hours

·Resource development and mapping

·Support group facilitation and coordination

·General administrative
