BACKGROUND: Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a leading, non-sectarian, non-profit organization providing emergency relief, protection, rehabilitation assistance, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict.Domestically, our 26 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.

SCOPE OF WORK: The Interpreter Services Scheduling Assistant supports a program that works with more than 30 contract interpreters to fill the needs of Charlottesville’s and the surrounding area’s limited English proficiency population and public and private agencies for professional interpretation. The position will work with the online scheduling system, Fluency, and will provide administrative support to the program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Attend a volunteer/intern orientation

•Perform review of Fluency schedule for last-minute appointments and the upcoming two weeks

•Contact available interpreters to assign appointments

•Respond to urgent customer emails and phone calls, cancel or edit appointments in the system if necessary, and follow up with appropriate interpreter and customer as needed

•Monitor voicemail/phone calls and direct urgent calls to the program manager in the field for assistance

•Assist with evaluating and training new interpreter candidates

•Record hours and submit completed timesheet for each month via the IRC’s online Volunteer Dashboard

•Complete other projects as assigned
