Background
Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. In addition, other at risk individuals and families are served through employment services, job readiness training, adult education and immigration services.

Internship Summary
Interns will support the ICM team by providing valuable services to clients based on need. This position has considerable face to face time with clients and is well suited to individuals wanting experiential learning with client populations.  Interns will collaborate with the ICM caseworkers to establish and develop programs, and lead group classes with clients. S/he may also help with administrative tasks. Must be comfortable working with clients in emotional situations.

Activities
Assist clients in applying for and renewing benefits;
Help clients build self-sufficiency skills, especially in the area of navigating community systems;
Contribute to the design and implementation of psychosocial support groups for clients;
Accompany clients to appointments and advocate on their behalf when needed;
Contribute to curriculum designed to teach clients life skills and lead group classes;
Complete assessments and follow-up with clients;
Ensure all documentation and case noting is to IRC and donor compliance standards.

Time Commitment
For the sake of stability and continuity, the IRC asks for a minimum commitment of 3 - 6 months, with at least 5-10 hours per week.

Training
In-depth training will be provided for interns to understand ICM programming and the various needs of clients accessing ICM services. A high-level of confidentiality is required when working with IRC clients.
