JOB PURPOSE

To deliver standard business support processes for a specific professional area of work, to facilitate effective service delivery.  

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Programme, direct supervision by the Programme Policy Officer, the Business Support Assistant - (Programme) will be responsible for:

Technical Planning, supervision and monitoring of the field activities

  • To actively engage in the beneficiary selection process under the guidance of the Programme Policy Officer.
  • To provide support in the design of the food security farming model (gardens, field farming)
  • To provide support to the design of the trainings to be provided to Farmers and NCPs.
  • To conduct food security activities in the field under the guidance of the Line Manager (input distribution, trainings, set up, maintenance, monitoring, reporting etc).
  • Monitor the comformity of field works (trainings, field visists, meeting, etc.) with the standards of WFP, and as per the agreed activity planned, BoQ and contracts.
  • To provide support to the design of the trainings to be provided to Farmers and NCPs.
  • To support in the technical evaluation of the agricultural material.
  • Ensure the timely implementation of field works as per the predefined schedule.
  • Inform and document the anomalies and the challenges carried out during the implementation phase of the program.

       Stakeholder coordinators

  • Field coordination in the field with the cooperating partners (CP) and extension officers on best implementation including participants, local farmers and communities affected by the project activities.
  • Field coordination with CP local authorities and ensuring continuous communication with beneficiaries and communities'n representatives regarding the implementation of works and in order to ensure a flawless progress of acrivities.
  • Support in building relationships between WFP, government authorities, partners and communities.

       Data collection and reporting

  • Regular reporting of work progress to the Programme Policy Officer.
  • Report possible problem or conflict during the activities.
  • Facilitate uploading field activity data using tablets or mobile devices. 

       Security 

  • Respect the security rules specified in the mission and base security plan, see to it that the team under his/her responsibility complies with the security plan and perform the security management tasks that can be assigned in its protocols.
  • Communicate to the security managers of the working location any security related information or noncompliance with the security plan.
  • Any other related duties.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education : Completion of secondary school education.   A University Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture or any related field is desirable.
Experience: Four or more years of progressively responsible work experience in the relative business stream which include:

  • implementing smallholder farmers production or extension
  • facilitating input/subsidy/support initiatives,
  • linking farmers production to best value markets
  • linking farmers production to best value markets
  • conducting training for transformation of farming practices

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Siswati.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Knowledge in field crop production vegetable gardening, food security and livelihoods.
  • Has experience working in agriculture sector.
  • A teamplayer 
  • Excellent listening and communication skills.
  • Suond negotiation skills and ability to accept responsibility.
  • Proficiency in Windows, MS Office (Word, Excel, Power point, Outlook).
