BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The United Nations World Food Programme - saving lives in emergencies and changing lives for millions through sustainable development. WFP works in more than 80 countries around the world, feeding people caught in conflict and disasters, and laying the foundations for a better future. The Innovation and Knowledge Management Division was set up in 2015 to manage change and promote innovation within the organization. The team is working directly with WFP’s leadership to drive corporate priority projects.


SPECIFIC TASKS:

The Consultant, reporting to the INK management, is expected to:
 

  1. Overall divisional priorities
  • Manage project execution for conferences and external speaking engagements related to innovation in humanitarian and development settings; 
  • Drive content preparation for corporate priority topics and WFP management meetings with Director and Heads of Units participation;
  • Coordinate and prepare written materials, including presentations, briefing papers, thematic research, and talking points for management, inter-agency opportunities, and donor related activities; Review, quality-check, and provide appropriate feedback on work products requiring Director approval;
  • Support the INK Director and Heads of Units in liaison with partners;
  • Support divisional reporting to members of WFP’s Executive Management Group;
  • Serve as the alternate focal point for the Division Director’s calendar. 
     
  1. Internal communications, knowledge management onboarding and learning
  • Drive communication and information sharing across the INK teams;
  • Support INK’s Knowledge Management Lead in implementing a corporate roadmap for knowledge management; 
  • Help foster a divisional culture of collaboration, staying at the forefront of avant-garde ways of working;
  • Develop and run a standardized onboarding process for new joiners;  
  • Identify learning opportunities; coordinate and promote across teams to help foster cross-divisional learning and peer-to-peer trainings  

 

  1. Other activities
  • Prepare articles on INK’s work for WFP’s internal and external websites, and support with graphic design tasks as needed;
  • Support the Division Director as well as Heads of Units with other activities as required, including in the area of corporate knowledge management

 

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:

  • Ensure that all work and materials developed during the contract are well documented and available to the wider WFP Innovation and Knowledge Management Division.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education:

A degree in communications or international development is preferred.

 

Experience:

At least 3 years of progressively responsible national and/or international experience, preferably in communications, marketing, journalism, or partnerships. Experience in innovation and change management is beneficial.

 

Knowledge & Skills:

  1. Experience in communication within a global organisation required.
  2. Ability to produce high-quality written materials, including graphically-based PowerPoint presentations as well as text documents.
  3. Ability to interact with leaders and external audiences with maturity and tact.
  4. Collaborative spirit able to liaise with a wide range of people at all levels and across different cultures and to act with credibility and diplomacy.
  5. Strong time management skills with an ability to plan ahead, anticipate requirements, problems and obstacles, and an ability to juggle competing priorities successfully, and to work to tight deadlines.
  6. Self-motivated and able to work with a high degree of autonomy.
  7. Fully committed and motivated to achieve the aims of the UN World Food Programme.
  8. Willing to work in and travel to different field locations and challenging operating environments.

 

Languages:

Fluency in written and spoken English required. Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language is beneficial.

 

Visa:

WFP supports Visa applications and the position is based in Rome, Italy.
