GENERAL BACKGROUND

Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified and motivated Mental Health Psycho-social Support (MHPSS) Officer who will have the responsibility for providing timely and effective protection to refugees, asylum seekers and migrants (persons of concern – PoCs).

About the job

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been working in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1992 and closed its office in the country at the end of January 2010 after 18 years. In July 2018 DRC re-opened its mission responding to increasing and priority needs of Person of Concern (PoCs) in close cooperation with the BiH Authorities. More specifically DRC BiH focuses on improving the access to primary and secondary health care including psychosocial and mental health services to PoCs, as well as on enhancing the overall protective environment for PoCs, with particular focus on case management in SGBV, and timely outreach response to rights violations at the borders. DRC has main office in Sarajevo and activities implemented in Una-Sana, Herzegovina- Neretva and Sarajevo Cantons.

Position: Mental Health Psycho-social Support (MHPSS) Officer

Project implementation period: August  2021 – March 2022

Duty Station:  Bihać, Una-Sana Canton, BiH

Period of engagement: August 2021- December 2021

Basic functions: 

MHPSS Officer oversees MHPSS programming in targeted locations, under the supervision of the Healthcare Manager and Medical Advisor. The MHPSS Officer is responsible for supporting the MHPSS program staff in the area of community mental health and psychosocial program implementation.

MHPSS Officer refers to the Healthcare Manager and Medical Advisor and works in close cooperation with the Project staff (Protection Monitoring Officers, Medical Assistants, Medical Officers, GBV Officer, Translators/Cultural Mediators, etc.) 

Specific duties and responsibilities:

  • Conduct/participate in Mental Health, and Psychosocial needs assessment among POCs. This will include assessments consistent with IASC guidelines and Mental Health Psychosocial WHO assessment toolkit, at different stages of program planning and implementation.
  • Ensure disaggregated and cumulative tracking of beneficiaries and documentation of all activities and outcomes.
  • Assist in setting referral pathways, receive PSS referrals (internal/external), follow-up on referrals and provide feedback of actions taken
  • Participate in MHPSS coordination meetings, CCCM case management meetings and individual meeting related to MHPSS
  • Coordinate with relevant institutions (CH “Irfan Ljubijankić” or primary health care level) for beneficiaries that need proper treatment
  • Referral Mapping: Work with local partners to map MHPSS service providers and other services relevant to conflict-affected populations in target region. Create document listing relevant services and resources. Facilitate dissemination of information about existing services and supports to strengthen referral networks, both through written output and development of referral workshops for regional service providers.
  • Participate in preparation of internal and external reports, including submission of weekly / monthly reports to Healthcare Manager and Medical Advisor
  • Support project staff to maintain program records and documentation as per project management minimum standards, including maintaining the confidentiality and security of MHPSS client data.

 Qualifications & experience required 

  • Bachelor degree in Law, Social/Political science or other relevant field;
  • Experience on refugee/migration related issues would be an asset
  • Experience in capacity building of staff including training and supervision.

Work Experience: 

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in NGO, and substantial experience in MHPSS.
