Job Overview:

The Development Coordinator will report to the Development Manager and also work closely with the Executive Director in planning and executing strategic events and donor cultivation initiatives for the IRC in San Diego as we grow our base of supporters in the area. The Coordinator will help design and plan events and ensure that steady progress is made on the preparation details for upcoming events. In addition to event planning and logistics, supporting the solicitation and growth of sponsorship support for our annual fundraising dinner, A Taste of the IRC, will be a major area of focus. Along with planning and executing strategic events, the Coordinator will help to build, implement, and track progress on individual donor cultivation initiatives. This includes coordinating the office’s raising ~ $25,000 /year in Match support (through volunteer and in-kind donations).

Major Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

•In collaboration with the Development & Communications Manager, develop event budgets and manage resources to meet assigned fundraising goals;

•Strategize about event vision and planning details including locations, invite lists, and program details with IRC San Diego and HQ staff supporting each event;

•Develop and maintain detailed events preparation plans, also recording/tracking regular interactions with key community partners;

•Collaborate closely with third party vendors, IRC staff, community partners, volunteers and supporters to coordinate details of events, secure in-kind or monetary donations and participation;

•Help staff actual events, playing a key role in day-of execution, and support event follow-up;

•Participate in research, outreach, and cultivation activities to solicit cash sponsorships for A Taste of the IRC, working to upgrade existing sponsors as well as form new sponsor relationships with San Diego businesses;

•Coordinate the office’s raising of ~ $25,000/year in Match support through a combination of volunteer time and in-kind donations;

•Work closely with Development Manager and team at IRC to keep relevant partners updated on event details and prioritize tasks and decisions;

•Help brainstorm cultivation ideas, maintain a calendar of engagement and help to ensure progress is made in engaging supporters throughout the year including helping to log activities in Salesforce or other tracking tools, running reports and analyzing data to help shape strategies;

•Accurately maintain donor cultivation, solicitation, giving records in Salesforce, as assigned;

•Ensure proper donor recognition and appreciation for event donors;

•Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, and fully engage as a member of the development team and IRC San Diego staff including helping to educate other staff, interns or volunteers on development team processes and procedures;

•Plan and lead social media communications (primarily Facebook) for the IRC in San Diego;

•Support all internal communications efforts, working closely with program staff to deliver as needed client communications (ie Covid Newsletter, client-facing websites);

•Coordinate IRC representation at external speaking events, as well as taking the lead in organizing IRC tours for groups and visitors;

•Follow all policies, procedures and protocols of the agency;

•Other related fundraising and event duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

•Undergraduate degree or combination of related education and experience may be substituted;

•3+ years of related professional work experience ideal.  Demonstrated experience in non-profit event planning and execution and/or in a sales and marketing position;

•Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills;

•Able to work in fast-paced, deadline driven, collaborative environment;

•Proficient in Microsoft Office suite;

•Proficient in spoken and written English;

•Valid driver’s license; current insurance and access to reliable personal vehicle and a willingness to use it in performance of job duties.

Working Environment: 

•Standard, professional office environment most of the time at IRC’s office in San Diego;

•Travel in and around the service delivery area;

•Work outside of traditional office hours may be required.
