Job Overview: The vision of the IRC Seattle Youth Program is that youth from refugee and immigrant backgrounds will have the skills and resources necessary to pursue a future of opportunity. The Youth Program Team works towards this vision by providing educational and enrichment opportunities to help school-aged and young adult youth from refugee and immigrant backgrounds catch up on their education, accelerate English proficiency, plan and prepare for post-secondary education and career, and build positive relationships in the school and community. The ’21-‘22 IRC WSC Academic Coach will support IRC Seattle’s Math Masters and Youth Futures programs for secondary students, including co-designing and facilitating lessons around Mathematics concepts, supporting facilitation of Youth Futures Workshops related to College and Career Readiness for High School students, and providing individualized academic tutoring related to the Mathematics or the Graduation requirements titled, “High School and Beyond Plan”. As the IRC WSC Academic Coach you will have the unique opportunity to partner with newcomer youth as they develop the skills, resources, and knowledge to pursue their future goals and dreams.

Major Responsibilities:

Program Design and Implementation

  • Support the design and implementation of IRC Seattle’s Math Master’s Program as well as facilitate individualized academic tutoring
  • Support the facilitation of the Youth Futures afterschool and summer programs, including participating in planning and development meetings
  • Create safe and healing learning spaces and build supportive relationships with youth from refugee and immigrant backgrounds utilizing a trauma informed and culturally responsive approach that promotes positive cultural identity, celebration of diversity, and is continually working towards equity and anti-racism in education.
  • Utilize academic resources and curriculum to develop culturally-appropriate and level-appropriate lesson plans to engage middle and high school students in learning and enrichment in various settings, including after school programs, individualized tutoring, summer programs, and workshops.
  • Assist with data collection and tracking for internal program monitoring and evaluation.
  • Support volunteers and interns assisting with youth programming, including tutoring services and summer school programs.
  • Support and participate in family engagement events.
  • Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, and fully engage as a member of the IRC team.

Resource Development

  • Maintain ongoing knowledge of level and grade appropriate math content and High School and Beyond Plan Requirements (WA State) in partnership with Youth Program Coordinator and school staff

General

  • Comply with all policies, procedures, and protocol.
  • Support with outreach, recruitment, and enrollment of eligible youth
  • Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, and fully engage as a member of the IRC team.
  • Comply with all policies, procedures, and protocols of the agency.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
