Position: Education & Learning Monitoring and Evaluation Intern

Reports to: Education & Learning Manager, Caitlyn Griffith

Position Term: October – June preferred

Hours: 15 hours per week; between Monday - Friday, 9am – 5pm (flexible)

Background:

Since 1999, the IRC has developed partnerships with New York City public schools, community-based organizations and local colleges and universities to support the positive development of refugee youth and their communities in New York City.  The Education and Learning Program provides year round programming working directly with refugee youth, their parents and families, and their schools.

The IRC New York Regional Office’s Education and Learning unit works to meet the educational needs of all members of refugee and asylee families to access and succeed in the educational services they need to thrive in New York City. To this end, IRC NY delivers adult education classes, continuing education and career guidance, one-on-one support for parents and youth transitioning into NYC public schools, Saturday tutoring, a youth leadership program, and a summer school orientation Academy.

Scope of Work:

The Management Interns will assist the Education & Learning Manager to oversee operation of the department’s programs and support their daily needs. The Management Interns will support communication and coordination, assist with key management responsibilities, and help to ensure that special projects and events are a success. One intern is expected to focus on budget management and the other will focus on program monitoring and data management. These are unpaid internships.

Essential Job Functions:

  •  Assist with day to day operations and management of the E&L programs
  • Program monitoring and data management
  • Track indicators specified in annual program framework
  • Track attendance and program outputs
  • Assist with monitoring activities (i.e. collating data from program personnel reports, conducting feedback interviews)
  • Assist with creating and strengthening M&E tools
  • Provide inputs to proposals and reports
  • Manage special projects as assigned
  • Support in client and family outreach
