SCOPE OF WORK:

The International Rescue Committee in Salt Lake City provides wrap-around services for over 150 refugee youth who have been in the country up to two years. The College and Career Readiness (CCR) program provides one-on-one academic and career counseling for high school aged refugee youth, as well as skill building workshops on a variety of topics: financial literacy, career exposure, digital skills, job readiness, etc. With support from the CCR Specialist, CCR Mentors are paired with 5 active CCR youth participants and support them through weekly individualized advising sessions around goal setting, education/career planning, and social-emotional skill development. CCR Mentors will model appropriate behavior and engagement related to school and the workplace, build supportive relationships with their mentees, and act as positive role models to youth. Pending COVID Safety Protocols, CCR Mentors will participate virtually and/or in-person in CCR workshops, activities, and field trips.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·Work with CCR Specialist to support the needs of refugee youth by forming positive, healthy, and empowering mentor/mentee relationships with students.

·Guide youth through career goal setting and planning.

·Support students through social and emotional learning engagements.

·Provide follow-up and intervention support if youth are not maintaining necessary attendance and progress at school.

·Track mentees involvement and participation, including dates and lengths of meetings.

·Attend CCR workshops and events to assist with interpretation and comprehension.

·Model appropriate behavior and engagement in the program.

·Participate in all training sessions and commit to biweekly collaborative meetings with the CCR Specialist and other mentors.

·Assist with transportation, as needed.

·Communicate student needs to the CCR Specialist.

·Other related duties as assigned for CCR programming.
