CHAI, in partnership with its India affiliate, William J. Clinton Foundation's (WJCF), has been working in India since 2004 in close partnership with and under the guidance of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) at the central and state levels on an array of high priority initiatives aimed at improving health outcomes. Currently, CHAI/WJCF programs support government initiatives on Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis-C, cancer, immunization, and health financing. Additionally, CHAI/WJCF supports many state governments on large-scale programs to arrest childhood and maternal mortality due to malnutrition, anaemia, diarrhoea and pneumonia, and helping increase access to quality family planning services.
About the project
India continues to bear the world's highest burden of tuberculosis (TB) in terms of absolute numbers of incident TB cases. An estimated 350 million people in India are infected with latent TB, and 4 Million new TB infections occur every year. India has set an ambitious target of eliminating TB by 2025. In order to achieve this target, the National Strategic Plan 2017–2025 has set an ambitious target of 95% LTBI identified/eligible cases to be initiated on TB Preventive Treatment (TPT) by 2025.
The Joint Effort for Eliminating TB (JEET) project aims to address the LTBI burden by establishing innovative mechanisms for contact tracing of pulmonary TB patients, diagnostics and ensure access to quality care. The project is the first of its kind, large scale programmatic intervention on LTBI. The project is being implemented in 11 states and union territories across the country and is expected to impact over 1.3M individuals over three years.
CHAI is looking for highly motivated individuals with outstanding credentials for the role of Communications Lead. The individual will be primarily responsible for designing and implementing the communication and engagement strategy. They will work closely with doctors, patients and field teams to understand current gaps and drive adoption of project services.
The candidate should have strong marketing experience and communication skills. They must be self-driven, entrepreneurial, and adaptable and have a high level of comfort with ambiguity. They will be expected to function independently and flexibly, with little to no oversight. They must be self-assured, a fast learner, resilient, and a strong team player. CHAI places great value on relevant personal qualities: resourcefulness, responsibility, tenacity, independence, energy, and work ethic. The Communications Lead will report directly to the Program Lead.
- Understand patient and community behaviour through field visits, studies and interaction with project staff
- Devise an effective behaviour change communication strategy to drive adoption of preventive TB treatment at the community level
- Collaborate with partners to create buy-in for engagement strategy and get their inputs on development of various creatives
- Work with agencies to translate strategy into creatives (visual aids, flyers, LBLs etc.)
- Drive omni-channel engagement strategy; devise plans to maximize digital channels for outreach and engagement
- Understand key barriers in adoption of TB preventive treatment amongst providers and translate insights into an effective engagement strategy
- Empower field staff to effectively engage providers through development of communication aids (print and digital)
- Provide technical and marketing guidance to field teams on private sector engagement
- Develop systems to monitor effectiveness of engagement strategies and take corrective actions
- Other responsibilities as needed
- Master’s degree (MBA or equivalent degree) preferred
- Bachelors degree in relevant field such as biology/ pharmaceutical sciences or others
- 4+ years of overall work experience preferably in marketing of pharma/bio-tech/diagnostic products or developing healthcare communication strategy for a non-profit
- Strong understanding and demonstrated experience in executing omni-channel outreach campaigns
- Ability to work independently but coordinate and collaborate with large teams
- Ability to plan, multi-task and manage time effectively
- Willingness to travel and undertake periodic field visits
