About Uninhibited

Uninhibited aims to upli 2.5 million vulnerable menstruators across India over the next five years, specifically working with marginalised groups such as sex workers, trans people, low-income and rural communities to de-stigmatise menstrual, sexual and reproductive health (MHH & SRH) and reduce long-term gender inequity. Menstruation is believed to be ‘impure’ and overwhelming stigma, taboos and a lack of knowledge prevents menstruators from seeking healthcare, making informed choices about their bodies and participating in school and the workforce.

Our mission is to create safe spaces for uninhibited conversations with not only menstruators, but the wider community of men and boys, local elders and teachers to normalise MHH & SRH. Through our four key programmes, we’ve seen menstruators participate equitably in school, the workforce and society during menstruation and experience better health and wellbeing. Our programmes include:

  • Telemedicine Helpline (Hello Saathi) - a free menstrual and sexual reproductive helpline that provides access to telemedicine consults and digital prescriptions, IVR-based health education and self-care advice via our trained helpline assistants (launched in 2020 as part of COVID-19 response)
  • Community & Schools Programme (PeriodShala) - enabling behaviour change among marginalised menstruators and men through safe spaces and open dialogue around MHH & SRH
  • The Period Fellowship (TPF) - 15-month grassroots fellowship to shape future menstrual and sexual reproductive health leaders. The 2021-22 cohort is a team of 9 Period Fellows placed in rural Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, kicking off on June 14, 2021.
  • PeriodPreneurs (PP) - 13-month incubator to nurture MHH & SRH start-ups in new regions to strengthen the menstrual health ecosystem
