Organizational Setting
Under the direct technical supervision of the LTO for project TCP/SRB/3804 titled “Support to organic agriculture” and in close consultation with the National Project Coordinator for Serbia and REU Programme Specialist, the International Consultant on Organic Livestock will assess the organic livestock production sector, develop Capacity building programme on organic livestock production in South-eastern Serbia.
Reporting Lines
Under the direct technical supervision of the LTO for project TCP/SRB/3804 - “Support to organic agriculture” and in close consultation with the National Project Coordinator for Serbia and REU Programme Specialist, the International Consultant on Organic Livestock will carry out the following activities:
Technical Focus
Guide the process to conduct an assessment of the organic livestock production sector in South-eastern region of Serbia including bottlenecks, lack of supplies, facilities, animal health care, particularly the use of antibiotics and other veterinary drugs technical assistance, policy background, potential use of reclaimed land (public land) to be used as pasture for organic livestock;
Tasks and responsibilities
• Draft the action plan to address the gaps and challenges of the sector;
• Develop a comprehensive capacity building programme on organic livestock production in South-eastern Serbia which would include the development of practical guides/instruction manuals, trainings and study tours for farmers, advisors and veterinarians, and development of business plans to support producers access different markets and which could serve as a basis to develop an Organic Farmers Organization;
• Based on the assessment, support actions and initiatives to stimulate the organic livestock supply chain in Serbia, assuring that farmers have access to certified supplies and facilities.
Expect outputs:
• Assessment of the organic livestock production sector in South-eastern region of Serbia;
• Action plan to address the gaps and challenges of the sector;
• Capacity building programme on organic livestock production in South-eastern Serbia.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• University degree in veterinary or related fields.
• 7 years of relevant experience in organic livestock production
• Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two or Arabic, Chinese, Russian. (for PSA only one language required)
