IRC Background:
 Founded in 1933, the IRC is a leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. In the U.S.; IRC provides assistance to refugees resettling here through 27 offices operating in 16 states. IRC resettles approximately 11,000 refugees per year and provides numerous program services to assist the refugee from their arrival through citizenship. The IRC in Salt Lake City opened it office in 1994, and provides resettlement services through extended case management to newly arrived refugees for up to 24-months as well as over twenty different programs to educate and empower refugees. 
Job Overview:
The Afghan Placement and Assistance (APA) Program is a new program being implemented at the International Rescue Committee to assist individuals from Afghanistan who are arriving in the United States. The Housing Assistant will work to procure housing options and arrange placement of arriving families into safe and sanitary housing.  
Major Responsibilities: 
•Generate and follow up on property management contacts to secure safe, sanitary, affordable, housing for arriving families.
•Build and maintain relationships with property owners for the benefit of new arrivals.
•Work with property management to arrange apartment setups, lease signings and move-ins.  
•Coordinate transitional housing options to ensure that arrivals have housing and can transition to permanent housing options. 
•Coordinate with the Logistics Assistant and the Housing and Logistics team to ensure that housing has the furniture and supplies needed for move-in.  
•Track and document housing placements
•Use personal, insured vehicle, IRC vehicles and/or public transportation (where available) to travel and transport clients and materials as needed.
•Other duties as assigned.
