In India, Jhpiego works across various states in close collaboration with national and state governments, providing technical assistance in the areas of family planning, maternal and child health, strengthening human resources for health, and non-communicable diseases. These programs are funded by USAID, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, David & Lucile Packard Foundation, Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), MSD for Mothers and other anonymous donors.
Jhpiego intends to respond to the urgency and magnitude of the second wave of COVID-19 in India while identifying areas and modalities of implementation aligning it to the country and state’s response to the surge.

Reaching Impact, Saturation, and Epidemic Control (RISE) is a global project funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and led by Jhpiego. RISE works with countries to achieve a shared vision of attaining and maintaining epidemic control, with stronger local partners capable of managing and achieving results through sustainable, self-reliant, and resilient health systems. USAID RISE program in capacity building and optimizing knowledge sharing platform amongst the facilities for standardized management and work towards building sustainability and healthcare workforce resilience.
This position requires technical expertise, public health experience, strong coordination skills, understanding of Indian public health system and ability to develop positive, professional working relationships with various government counterparts and other development partners. This position will report to Deputy Chief of Party-RISE (Immunization).

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Support Deputy Chief of Party - RISE (Immunization) to develop strategies for project implementation in the selected intervention states, monitoring of RISE Immunization work and coordination with donors, development partners and other stakeholders.
• Work closely with national and state teams to develop annual work plan for projects and provide support in implementation and monitoring of project immunization activities as per agreed plan and timelines.
• Backstop project teams in providing technical assistance to RISE state officials, State & Hub officials and provide handholding support and build capacity of project teams in implementation to achieve project goals.
• Meet regularly with MoHFW officials, state Government/National Health Mission (NHM) officials, Hub level officials, medical colleges, etc., for smooth management of immunization project and respond to the requests in a timely manner.
• Facilitate development of financial proposals jointly with state officials for incorporation in the state’s NHM Program Implementation plan (PIP) or ECRP plans.
• Coordinate with state teams to ensure timely and quality state, donor and HQ reporting.
• Facilitate RISE project immunization activities including trainings, on-site coaching, workshop planning, logistics planning and management to ensure smooth project implementation.
• Backstop and guide the program team to develop and produce documents like situation analysis reports, assessment reports, success stories, gap analysis plans, procurement plans etc. as per the program need and local context.
• Facilitate documentation of project results, successes, challenges and lessons learned.
• Work with Research team in development of research proposals, scientific papers and submissions to international and national conferences.
• Work with Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) team at national and state level to establish systems for tracking progress, indicators and deliverables according to agreed work-plans to ensure state and donor requirements are met.
• Support program directors and HQ in knowledge management (KM) – development and tracking of KM plans for different projects.
• Represent Jhpiego at national and state-level meetings involving government and development partners.
• Frequent travel to the state and districts as per the project’s requirement.
• Support Deputy COP- Immunization in coordination & smooth implementation of Sub Awards activities related to immunization.
• Perform other activities, as assigned by the supervisor to achieve organizational goals.

Abilities/Skills:

• Ability to work with a diverse technical team.
• Ability to develop productive working relationships with other agencies, stakeholders and other organizations including government counterparts.
• Strong written and oral communication skills in English and Hindi.
• Proficiency in writing technical and programmatic documents such as training materials and reports.
• Ability to handle a variety of assignments under pressure of deadlines.
• Proficiency in computers – Microsoft Office.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 50 % of his/her time.

Qualifications/Knowledge and Experience:

• MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS with Masters in Public Health/ Community Medicine or equivalent.
• More than 7 years of overall experience including working on Immunization programs.
• Technical knowledge and field experience in Immunization programs.
• Knowledge of grant proposal writing and monitoring.
• Knowledge of Indian health system, key stakeholders and relevant government.
• policies/strategies particularly National Health Mission (NHM).
• Preferably experience of working at national level with Ministry of Health and international NGOs.
