Financial controller

We Effect is a development organisation founded by the Swedish cooperative movement in 1958 to support the development of democratic organisations and societies. Vi Agroforestry (Vi-skogen) is a Swedish development foundation that was established in 1983. Vi Agroforestry fights poverty through agroforestry - sustainable agriculture and land management by growing trees alongside crops and livestock. Vi Agroforestry has offices in four countries and a regional office in Kenya. Work is done together with partner organisations, organising small-holder farmer families in East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda). For more information, see www.viskogen.se.

We Effect is now recruiting an Financial Controller to the head office in Stockholm, which will work for both We Effect and Vi-skogen. The position will be in We Effect.

Main responsibilities

In the role of Financial Controller, you are responsible for ensuring the quality of financial reporting, processing of the payment of funds to regional and country offices and reconciliation of the associated balance sheet account. You cooperate extensively with our regional and country offices and are the hub between region and head office on all financial matters. You will also carry out financial monitoring in our operating countries. Annual international travels to the organisations' regional and country offices are required (when possible due to the pandemic).  You are also part of the budget and forecast process. Another important task is the yearly book-closing and yearly financial statements, including documentation and coordination with auditors and reporting to financiers or other stakeholders. We have just implemented a new financial system, Xledger. The finance team at head office consists of three financial controllers and one accountant that manage the day-to-day work and you will report to the Finance manager.

About you

To succeed in this position, you need to be organised and structured. You enjoy working efficiently towards finding the best solution and do not hesitate to develop procedures to ensure the best outcome of your work. You have experience working with qualified finance work within the NGO sector or in the non-profit sector. You have high integrity and are good at collaborating and communicating in a clear way. You have very good knowledge of the Microsoft Office package and are an advanced user of Excel. You have relevant academic education.  The working language is English  but good knowledge in Swedish is a merit. We wish you had experience working with funding from Sida CIVSAM, the EU or other institutional donors. Knowledge of Spanish or any other language in our operating countries is also a merit. Required qualifications

·         University degree in finance or audit

·         Experience of work within the NGO sector or non-profit sector

·         Experience working with institutional donors such as Sida CIVSAM, EU or other institutional donors

·         Advanced user of Excel och good knowledge in the Microsoft office package

Personal Competencies

·       Organised, structured with strong integrity

·       Capacity to work independently and in alignment with strategies and policies.

·       Strong oral and written communication skills in English. 

Merits

·       Working knowledge in Spanish, Portuguese, Kiswahili, or other language spoken in the countries where we are working.

·         Knowledge in Xledger
