The CERN Neutrino Platform has been set up by CERN in response to the 2013 European Strategy for Particle Physics to foster fundamental research in the field of long baseline accelerator-based Neutrino Physics. We are looking for an experienced physicist to lead this project successfully.

Functions

As Project Leader of the CERN Neutrino Platform, you will:

  • Lead the design and construction of two large cryostats as CERN’s contribution to the LBNF/DUNE facility;
  • Lead the R&D efforts towards large LAr-based neutrino detectors;
  • Support other R&D projects for neutrino detectors;
  • Represent the Organization at conferences and workshops and in common projects with other research laboratories and institutions;
  • Coordinate the planning and manage the activities of the Neutrino Platform including material and personnel resources;
  • Lead the CERN section attached to the Neutrino Platform.

Qualifications

PhD or equivalent relevant experience in the field of particle physics or a related field.

Experience:

  • Extensive experience in a leading role in large particle physics experiments or a similar area in an international context;
  • Proven experience in the construction and operation of large particle detectors.

Technical competencies:

  • Project management;
  • Assembly and integration of infrastructure for detectors or experimental facilities;
  • Operation and support of experimental facilities;
  • Development, review of plans for physics and related technologies R&D programmes.

Behavioural competencies:

  • Achieving results: producing comprehensive work / project plans taking into account resources and contingencies.
  • Creating vision and strategic partnerships: creating shared interests and promoting contact and collaboration with key external partners; building comprehensive road maps to translate the organisational vision to an operational level; defining and sets direction accordingly.
  • Optimising resources: realistically assessing human and financial resource needs, evaluating risks and plans accordingly; analysing organisational problems, breaking them down into manageable parts in order to reach workable solutions.
  • Setting direction: delegating tasks by giving responsibility for content and methodology; maintaining overall accountability for outcome; managing conflicts within the team and with stakeholders in a constructive way.

Language skills:

  • Spoken and written English: ability to draw-up technical specifications and/or scientific reports and to make oral presentations.
  • Ability to understand and speak French in professional contexts or the willingness to acquire it rapidly.

Employment Conditions

  • Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organization.
