Recent breakthroughs in HIV treatment and prevention research have created unprecedented opportunities to curb new HIV infections, save lives and reduce the global investment required for the HIV response. The HIV epidemic is already being affected by the use of existing biomedical tools — particularly expanded HIV testing, linkage to effective treatment and prevention, including antiretroviral treatment (ART) for people living with HIV, Option B+, voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC), male and female condoms, and more recently, oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). In addition, dynamic activity is continuing across the biomedical prevention research pipeline and even longstanding prevention options like condoms are undergoing innovation.
CHAI will work with funders, country governments, key prevention partners and an array of product developers to support the Ministry of Health and Child Care in the coordination and implementation of integrated and sustainable combination HIV prevention, ensuring timely, efficient and effective product delivery for HIV prevention and improving the understanding of user perspectives within HIV prevention.
